I like the combat boots to go with it. :D Especially in a combat zone it would be the thing to have.

I wonder if military chaplains are issued 9 mm's the way military doctors are?

What about the Holy Handgrenade of Antioch?
Only if they're Antiochians. And they managed to steal it back from the English.
Wow. "Your Priest wears combat boots!" isn't an insult for them; it's just a statement of fact.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/mphg/mphg.htm
LAUNCELOT: We have the Holy Hand Grenade.
ARTHUR: Yes, of course! The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! 'Tis one
of the sacred relics Brother Maynard carries with him! Brother Maynard!
Bring up the Holy Hand Grenade!
[singing]
How does it, uh... how does it work?
KNIGHT: I know not, my liege.
ARTHUR: Consult the Book of Armaments!
MAYNARD: Armaments, Chapter Two, Verses Nine to Twenty-One.
BROTHER: "And Saint Atila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying,
'Oh, Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that with it thou mayest blow
thy enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and
people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies,
and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large --"
MAYNARD: Skip a bit, Brother.
BROTHER: "And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the
Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three
shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting
shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two,
excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once
the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou
thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty
in my sight, shall snuff it.'"
MAYNARD: Amen.
ALL: Amen.
ARTHUR: Right! One... two... five!
KNIGHT: Three, sir!
ARTHUR: Three!

Indeed.
Lord have mercy.
It is a sign of a true Church that she is persecuted in every day until The Day.
The blood of the countless has always been a rich food for the growth of those who remain and come after.

They're actually issued a Chaplain's Assistant who is usually armed as well as any other soldier. Chaplains don't carry guns. I have a friend who's a Chaplain's Candidate. He will go active after graduation this coming May. He absolutely loves it.

U.S. Military Chaplains are not allowed to carry a fire-arm, nor are they allowed to go into combat zones or mention any type of Divine Intervention to the faithful. They usually have a Chaplain's Assistant assigned to them that acts as a secratarey/bodyguard. The Chaplain's Assistant drives them wherever they need to go, and protects them at all times.
Generally speaking most military bases have a chapel/room of some sort that must act as a place of worship for ALL faiths, so no permanent fixtures (crucifix, crescent moon, star of David, etc.) can be hung in the room/chapel at all times.
Hope this helps!

They do wear a 'weapon' if it's part of the uniform. For ex. Navy officer Chaplains wear their ceremonial sword if they are above a certain rank. What is more the practice is that they do not wear any sort of weapon in an area of worship.
My husband went to SERE training (survial training) with a chaplain last year and they have to be qualified on all common weapons even if they don't carry them (at least he had to be qualified). My uncle was a Chaplain during Vietnam and he said they just didn't have guys enough back then to guard them.
We are having a 'sword bin' at our wedding by the door - but all our military guests know better too. They are all always worried about leaving them, but one of our Nuns joked that she'll guard the swords ;) (now that would be a picture).
More and more bases are actually starting to have more than one church, or location for worship. They are starting to separate out the Christians, Muslims, Jewish, and most aircraft carriers have at least those three Chaplains available at least during deployment time. Most carriers have other faiths as well but they serve the whole battle group if need be. They are realizing that not all are the same no matter how they are supposed to serve non-denominationally.

He'll be in the Army. He's already served as a Captain in the Special Forces in Afghanistan. He's had over a hundred jumps so far I think. He's wanting to be assigned to the 101st or 82nd Airbornes.

That's wonderful! My husband is in the Navy but he's still training for two more months. We always joke with the 'jumpers' that "Why do you jump out of a perfectly fine working airplane?" :D

I think there may be something wrong with him;). Of course some of those Orthodox Chaplains have a lot more jumps than he does. Wait till it lands, I say.
