Yeah I know.

Listen, I have a couple of guys at work that ask about this topic on occasion. With the new "based on a true story" movie they're asking again.

I posted a similar topic on B/A but wanted to check with TAW: Do your priests perform exorcisms similar to RCC?

Satan exists. Demons exist. And they are capable of possessing people. Christ gave His church the authority to cast out demons. Put 2 and 2 together.
So yes, the Orthodox believe in and practice exorcisms. I don't know the exact "mechanics" with an Orthodox exorcism, or with a Catholic one, so I couldn't tell you how similar they are. But I can't imagine them being too dissimilar.

For those of us who are not native speakers of Russian, could you kindly give us a gist of what was said?

From the pictures, I can see the exorcisms and hear screams of the possessed. It is a powerful collection of vivid images. When were these clips taken? What is the date of this video?

Thanks.

Not understanding Russian (?) I still got the gist of it. Would those exorcisms have been done during a regular EO service or a separate one?

One scene had the priest slinging water with what appeared to be a dish mop--I've seen sprinkling but he was looking to do more than a token dousing. What was the story there.

Also, there was another scene where it appeared that people were honoring or bowing to a picture frame attached to a window. Were they seeing some apparition or something there?

And (last one) the scene where it appeared that the priest was using something like a small artistic paint brush to annoint (?) to possessed woman-am I guessing that one right?

Thanks for the link.

I have a condition called guillaum-barre syndrome which I got in June. I have a very mild form of it so instead of being paralyzed, I just have violent twitches, so I was thinking, after seeing those people convulsing like that, I wonder if maybe I could be possessed....????? Interesting video btw
It seems like what they saw on the window that was framed was a pair of very dark eyes, but I don't know, I have to see it again.

I once saw a video of Fr. Anthony who used to be a priest in Pennsylvania. He was performnig a mass exorcisim, and the people were screaming and howling, and also vomitting up white vomit. It was pretty scary.

Also there is another story of the Elder Ephraim. It was up in Canada I believe during a time of tension between the New and Old calender Churches. He was visiting someones house, and there were alot of people there sitting around him. And there was this young girl, who he kept staring at, and was staring at him, when all of the sudden she started screaming and yelling in a mans voice, saying it was a demon who was causing all this tension between the Churches. He or she was upset that Geronda was there and wanted him to leave because the demon could no longer take it. The demon also said he has been in the girl for years, and this was the first time anyone knew. I don't really remember what happened after that, but that is what I remember.

Ok, now it worked. It is pretty scary, that those people probably didn't even know they were possesed. I wonder how many of us, or the people we see at Church every week might be..let's pray none.:prayer:

If you really are concerned you should speak with your priest about it. It isn't likely, and it isn't surprising that possession would mimic symptoms of diseases and disorders.

It is difficult for me to conceive of a possessed individual being able to tolerate being present through Divine Liturgy, and I can't imagine anyone so possessed being able to go anywhere near the Chalice.

Though I am sure they are quite different, there were prayers of exorcism read over me right before I was baptised.

Not all possesions are full possesions. In other words the demons aren't always there. They come and go as they please. So the demons could take off when it is time to go to Church. And they don't stop the people from going, so the people won't find out their possesed.

That is certainly concievable. Before I converted, I had 3 spirits that oppressed me all the time and I've been in services where they left or hid only to return as soon as I left the service. Now, that was when I was Protestant so I don't know what might have been going on or what games they might have been playing but the moment I made the decision to become Orthodox, they vanished and that oppression was broken.

Of course they left when you converted. That was the Holy or Chrismation. And the Baptism if you were Baptised as well. You were cleansed and forgiven of all sins.

I'm just a catechumen. The oppression broke when I made the decision to convert and determined to do so.

I don't want to give wrong info, and that's all I remember. I don't know if he did an exorcism, or if the demon left.
