Is there anyone on here considering monasticism? And what is holding you back, or why haven't you fully decided? Do you think maybe you should get married, and live a married life? I am just curious if anyone else is having the same thoughts as me.
I just keep praying that my answers will come.:prayer:

Yeah that's what I'm doing. I guess He is testing my patients.

I occasionally think of it, but I have a year left of school and then I have to pay off my student loans, so it'll be a while before I'd be free to do so. However, I rather like women, am the sort St. Paul says should be married, and am not suited for agriculture, so I don't think the monastic life is for me. The only way to know for sure is to try.

I'm a new convert so I shouldn't be thinking about where God wants me for quite some time, but monasticism is a major possibility.

I've considered it ( even before i was Orthodox ) but I have responsibilities for now and those must come before any decision. In the meantime it is possible to adopt something of the monastic life into our existences outside of the monastery if we are serious about the intent.

I'm with NewToLife in that such thoughts have been on my mind LONG before ever even knowing what Orthodoxy is. My personality is fitting: I prefer silence and solitude; although I am attracted to women, I often find myself disinterested; and I really want nothing more than perfect communion with God.
But I will not jump to conclusions about anything. And as of now, I still have another 6 years left in the Navy.
And even if I never take a route of either ordination or monasticism, I would still like to go to seminary, or some kind of equivelant. I'll have my MGIB money when I get out of the Navy, but I'll also have my bachelor's degree. So I want to put that money to good use.

Monasticism is definately a beautiful life (not sure if I'm called to it or not, but we will see). :)

I'm surprised there aren't more girls on this thread. Generally girls seem to consider it more... mainly because guys have the additional question of being called to the priesthood.

When I was thinking about Roman Catholicism, I thought that if my husband goes before me, I would become a Poor Clare nun, but now that I'm Orthodox, I still think I would like to become a monastic if my husband goes before me and my kids are all grown up, of course. I am a very quiet person and I think this life would fit me very well, but I have a hard time discerning if this is a calling from God.

I was thinking about it... but, honestly speaking, I am a very bad person. You know one of those that would rather talk than act. An armchair theologian. Evil man. Egoistic.
I mean, monks work for living, I would rather be a hypocrat.
So, yes I was thinking about it... but... no.. not me.

I often tease my wife by making the statement that we are going to New Skete to live and she will just give me the look. :D
Seriously, though, if I weren't married or if (God forbid) something happened to my wife, I'm certain that would be the life I'd choose.
