Harry Potter. I have read the books and think they are well written- but I think there are lots of other great books out there too, and the service JK has done is to get kids reading cos when they have finished the potter the go onto other stuff

There is a rumour that I have Scottish ancestry, but my large second toe would also indicate Viking. The bagpipes are there because I bought some on my recent Scottish holiday. Also, team love have adopted them as our team instrument!

Did you grow up in The Salvation Army church?

Abiel
3rd September 2005, 04:41 AM
No not at all. I am a first generation Salvationist, having been a member since 2000. I come from a non-christian family. God called me at 12, before I went to church or was a Christian. I wanted to be a nun and took myself to church (anglican!) at the age of 12, became a choirgirl, got depressed, went to uni, became a Christian, got called, was told I was wrong, left uni, got depressed, back slide, got married, went to church because non christian hubby made me (he wanted me to be happy!), had babies, got depressed, moved house, couldnt bring myself to find new church, went to a toddler group at the Army. Then I got a diagnosis!!!! Praise God! Had councelling, took medicine, stayed at Army.

I have a more long winded and amusing version of this testimony, but it works better face to face!

I don't mean this in a sarcastic manner: that's quite a testimony.

Just so long as I take my medicine- it evens out the bumps, but there are days when I have a black cloud dogging me. I have strategies though. I used to always hide away, but now when I feel it coming on, I get out among people, into the fresh air. It's tough, but I find that when I get the focus off myself, the cloud often lifts.

You should hear people laugh when I tell them I wanted to be a nun!

There's a story to that too.

A long time ago, I was in a meeting where the preacher was talking about that bit of scripture which says that God has a name for us all- I forget where it is. So I prayed 'Lord, what is your name for me?'

In the days that followed I couldnt get the phrase out of my head 'I am your father'- it was like a stuck record going on and on- and so I had this bit of software of bible names and meanings, and into it I shoved the phrase 'God is my father'.

Out came 2 names. Abiel (Saul's Grandad and the other one, Abiel the Arbathite!) and Eliab (see the similarity!-one of David's brothers)

I thought God meant me to be Abiel, as it sounds more feminine. I use it as my middle name.

We went to Aberfoyle, which is not too far from Stirling and Loch Lomond. Stunning place

Yes, I know the Trossachs pretty well, they're one of my favourite places, and one of the most beautiful locations. Did you go to Stirling Castle?

Thanks for the background story ...

The more I read it, the more I am convinced that I should sit down and contemplate, meditate and pray what God's name is for me

Abiel that is neat how you got your SN. :)
What do you do for fun?

Abiel
10th September 2005, 03:03 AM
Fun??? Is fun allowed???

Well, I am blessed to have a job which is often fun. I am a Salvation Army Envoy (minister), part time pay, full time commitment. I work with kids, old folk and all in between. It's fun. Mainly!

CF is relaxing, mainly.

I learn piano, but I think that is more stressful than fun! On a Monday I go to a dance group, which is utterly ridiculous because I just cant keep up, but it makes me laugh.

If I have had enough of everything, I play with my dolls, Dawns and Pippas. I change their clothes and remodel their apartment block.

I like to snuggle on the sofa, watch a bit of TV with hubby, hang out with my boys.

I am creating my family tree.

I read a lot

Are we having fun yet? Hmm. These dont sound like much fun when I write them down, but it really doesn't take much to make me happy!

Those are cool dolls. I have a huge box of collector Barbies and Precious Moment dolls put away. I like the international dolls I have.

How long have you been taking piano lessons?

Abiel
16th September 2005, 07:12 AM
Barbies are just so tall though! Pippa takes up much less space!

Piano- started in 1993, lessons sporadically ever since according to finance/time

What is your idea of a perfect way to spend a Saturday?

Abiel
23rd September 2005, 04:24 AM
Ok...
Firstly, bet up in own time, rather than to the alarm clock. That would only be at about 8am, but wow! no alarm!
then a bit of a potter to tidying the wrecked kitchen. We often have take out late on a Friday, and no one can be bothered to clear away!
NO having to hastle the kids to get ready to go to school- hurray!

a nap on the sofa would be good in the afternoon. We generally have the radio on to listen to the football match

It's just usually really slow and relaxed. We catch up with each other
