Seriously, do you have any spare time and what do you like to do during it (besides sleep)?

ROFL! My poor cake!! :D
My birthday was this past Sunday (the 28th) and I spent it by not working even though it was supposed to be a work day for me (I work at a college and it was the day the upperclassmen were arriving), being taken out to dinner, and going to see my grandparent's grave. The last part sounds rather morbid...and I really regret doing it because it threw me into a rather off state for several days...but my grandmother's name was put on the grave a month or so ago (she passed away the end of March) and I really just wanted to see it.
Jenda....people sometimes kind of make fun of me because it looks like I'm hording a ton of blessings. It is actually a stock of blessings that Erwin gave me when he promoted me to Senator because I was taking over a lot of what he had been doing and didn't have time for. I keep the blessings around to give to other people when they need them for various things. So he did sorta pay me in a way. :D I do get spare time to do things other than CF, though sometimes my spare time away from CF finds its way into doing things for CF. I like to read, work on latch hook rugs and play games at pogo.com. I spend several weekends in PA because that's where my church is now.
fragmentsofdreams....I can not say I've ever tried that. Might be an interesting thing to do though. :)

Loribee - Thank you to you too! Never had a head massage before...what's that involve?
Head massage: all-over massage around the head, massage on the temples, cheeks under the eyes, jaws. massage on the eyes (closed), massage at the base of the skull & massaging the neck.
I've forgotten to mention one other thing that I do:
Foot massage. My mom swears by this... when I rub between the balls and the arch of her foot, it helps settle her tummy. This is called reflexology. Some sort of 'connection' between the foot and the body. :)
Massaging yourself doesn't have the same results as someone else massaging you. :)

Ahhh....very true. One time a friend told me that massaging the palm of your hand helps remove the pain of a migraine. I can't remember if it's the same palm as the side the migraine is on or if it's the opposite palm. But...it worked really well when he did it...but any time I've tried it...it soooo doesn't work. :D

A combination of both. I have met some people through CF and then later in real life. And others I have met first and then found out they were members of CF or later became members of CF.
Who are the 15 CF members you've met? :)
I'd rather not post their names as they might wish to remain anonymous. But it's a combination of both current and former staff as well as current and former members. :)

ever tried magnesium..? I had a friend who took them because she had hereditary migraines, so she took the supplement daily, and it helped when she gets her migraines. I dunno how much doseage, but I think about 300 to 500 mg would do.
something to try... :)

Can't say I have.
My pastor's trying to get me to go to a neurologist which scares the heck out of me.
But having a long talk with my mother the other night...she's thinking of changing her primary care physician...who's the same as mine...who's the same one who wouldn't prescribe anything for me to deal with migraines. So we're gonna do that together. I'll see what that person has to say...and keep the magnesium thing in mind. :)

ROFL!! I'm the reverse with my PCP~ as much as I loved his bedside manner, I question his doctoring~ he just throw pills at me! I need to find one that LISTENS...and then give me the option to have medications....or not.
Feh...I hate having to start all over with doctors..... some of them I've been with, since I was a little girl.
Just now, my rheumy doc whom I had since 1991 (have arthritis in both knees) had me quit methotrexate because of elevated blood enzyme in my liver (NOT good!), so a month without methotrexate, I really paid for it yesterday morning when my left knee gave out on me. So, now I'm trying out two different drug samples to see which ones works for me. OY.

A 2nd cousin (I think) from my mom's dad's side of the family is getting married Friday afternoon.
My mom and that side of the family really want to keep in touch and not let my grandfather's death 5 years ago and my grandmother's recent death be what stops us from continuing to be family. And they're the nicer relatives from my mom's side anyway. ;)

Anything with chocolate in it. :)
But...in particular my dad's mom used to make this awesome dessert called White Worm. It was these chocolate cracker-type things with Cool Whip between them and then smeared all around it...so it looked like a white worm. Anyway...you'd put all that in the fridge and serve it cold. Yummy! :yum:

Contrary to AskSeekKnock's belief...no my perfect Saturday does not include staying on CF all day. ;)
Honestly, it would be to sleep until about noon and just lounge around the house in comfy clothes all day reading or watching TV or a movie or working on a latch hook rug.

if you do cook, what's your favorite dish to make?
Heh....I don't get to cook much.
But when I do...I like to make a variation on one of my favorite side dishes.
It's called "Souped Up Rice."
You take any "cream of..." Campbell's soup (my preference is Cream of Mushroom) and make the soup as normal. When it's all mixed up, you add a can of Minute Rice (so if you use a small can of soup, it's a small can of rice). Put the top on the pot and let it sit about 10 minutes.
My addition to that is that I usually add a small can of green beans (though you could add any veggie I suppose) so that I get my starch and veggie in one dish. :)
loribee59
3rd October 2005, 03:26 PM
Here's another way to get all the good stuff with Cream of Mushroom soup:
"TUNA SURPRISE"
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can of milk
2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
1 small can of peas, drained
1 can of albacore or tuna, drained and shredded
Mix & stir all ingredients and add personal flavoring (I use Nature's Seasons--Morton brand) for taste.
Ladle over toast, cooked rice or crackers. :yum:

what's your dream car? fantasy and practical...! :D

Practical....I own. Chevy Prizm. :) From the moment I sat in my grandfather's Geo Prizm I wanted a Prizm and eventually got my own....before they stopped making them. :D
Fantasy....can't say I really know. Maybe something that's similar to a regular 4-door sedan but from a more expensive car brand, like Acura or Audi.

Well...it was rainy this weekend for me. :D So....what I like to do on a rainy day sounds a lot like what the perfect day is for me which I was asked about a while ago.
Sleep in...relax at home in comfy clothes...which involves either reading or latch hook rugs. And eating soup. For some reason on rainy (and snowy) days it just makes soup taste better. :)

Well I don't live in NYC...but right now live close enough that all I have to do is hop on a train and get there in about 70 minutes or so. :)
But...my favorite place to visit...
When I was younger it was FAO Schwartz...not to buy anything in there but just to see it and all the fun things they have there.
Now...well...any of the large old churches there...like St. John the Divine or St. Patrick's Cathedral. I just love the architecture of the buildings, the stained glass windows, and just everything about those churches.

hehe...this time next week I'll be in Houston. :D
Right now we're drying out from a week of rain. It's kind of breezy and...well...can be pretty cool in the mornings. Right now around noon it's in the lower 60's. And if Weather Channel's little desktop weather thing is close to right...that's about how it'll be over the next 10 days as well.
So...not really shorts-wearing weather. But you could go through the day with like jeans and a t-shirt or light-weight long-sleeved shirt. And maybe a light jacket for the morning and evenings.
Enjoy your trip!! :)

ROFL!!!
Yeah....there has been many times I've watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and been sooo glad I wasn't there because it was so cold and days I've been so jealous because it's been so nice that I could've stood watching it. :D
heh...heh... my best friend who used to live near NYC, loved to watch Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, and at one time when it was freezing out, ended up with her butt frozen & stuck to the mailbox (she was sitting on it) :D ^_^ After that, she just stayed home and watched TV. :P
okaaay...think I've a question for ya... what's your dream house?

All I know is I want to be able to lay down in my bathtub. And to have marble counter tops in my kitchen. But other then that...I don't have any idea of what I would want. :D

My trip was good. Amazingly not too much traffic while I was driving. And I survived driving through Virginia (Virginia drivers & I don't get along). Saw a lot of great places including St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Houston, a bit of Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.
And I did have fun. :)

I shall add you to my list of people who are now shocked that I actually don't own it yet. :D

I got back to PA from my vacation Monday...but was too tired to find someplace that was running a midnight madness thing to get it at midnight. When I woke up on Tuesday I drove home to NY with a migraine so I didn't feel like making any extra stops on the way home. This morning I had a chiropractor appointment so I couldn't stop on the way into work. BUT I will be picking it up on the way home tonight. :) So it won't be long. :D

I look on a lot of things as adventures...not like what most people would think of as adventures....like mountain climbing or going on an African safari. So a new job would be an adventure to me, or moving...stuff like that.
But...I guess the one adventure I'd like to do is get over my fear of travelling outside of the U.S. and go somewhere. :)

that's one part of the adventure--to get outside the "comfort zone" and travel. I've been to Eastern Europe at the age of 17, but being young, I didn't know any better. LOL

Well now that's a good question!!
I think maybe either when Jesus was crucified or when Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the door of the church in Wittenburg.
The first, because it's such a crucial part of my faith and belief. The second, because I think it would've been interesting to see what Luther's like attitude was while doing it and the reaction of others there.

Hey I dunno who to ask about this!
I couldn't decide whether I wanted to put "Presbyterian" "Catholic" or strke the difference and write "Calvinist" in my profile when I signed up - so I put down Presbyterian.
But Catholic makes the most sense, I'm Catholic now and that's simply not going to change.
I'll just explain my... idiosyncrasies... if the need requires it in a debate.
I feel kinda dishonest leaving the Presby thing up since I no longer am one.
So how do I change it to Catholic?

You know you have it bad when you stuff the phone up next to your shoulder and spin your chair to try to face the console when you're at home.
Do they even call the main terminal the console anymore? I haven't been inside an old "computer room" for about fifteen years.

Do they even call the main terminal the console anymore? I haven't been inside an old "computer room" for about fifteen years.
They do...at least where I work. I work with 4 main consoles on a daily basis, with a couple spares lying around as well as a 4-way screen. We're looking to upgrade to more PC-like stuff, but that's a long ways off.

Still taking undergrad classes that interest me.
I took an Intro to Literature class this past semester completely online and wound up with an A-. Not bad for feeling like I had to cram all the time. It was a half semester class and the teacher thought we needed to do a full-semester's worth of work in the same time.

Well, I keep trying. But too some of my CF time is spent while at work (with lots of other people around) so I don't always get a chance to read/post as much as I would like.

what does "fillabuster " means?
AngelAmidala
22nd August 2006, 01:14 PM
what does "fillabuster " means?
Well, I looked it up on Mirriam-Webster online, and it said this:
Main Entry: 1fil·i·bus·ter http://www.m-w.com/images/audio.gif (javascript:popWin('/cgi-bin/audio.pl?filibu01.wav=filibuster'))
Pronunciation: 'fi-l&-"b&s-t&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Spanish filibustero, literally, freebooter
1 : an irregular military adventurer; specifically : an American engaged in fomenting insurrections in Latin America in the mid-19th century
2 [2filibuster] a : the use of extreme dilatory tactics in an attempt to delay or prevent action especially in a legislative assembly b : an instance of this practice
But I learned it as a tactic that politicians use in the Senate or House of Representatives where a particular side of an issue keeps talking and talking to prevent a vote. They can do anything they want, like read a book out loud. But they can't sit down. They can yield to someone else, preferably someone on their "side" so that it won't end the filibuster...but otherwise there's no sitting down, no bathroom breaks, etc.

Best quoted from an episode of Xena, "Act, don't react."
Which means if something comes up...don't just react to something. I will be honest....I sometimes have a bit of a temper. (It's the Irish in me. ;) ) But I learned I make more mistakes when I just speak my immediate thoughts without taking the time to pray and consider alternate ways to handle what made me want to react. :)

Yes in regards to the fact that I have done stuff on CF in my entire time as a member here at CF to procrastinate on schoo work.
But no, because then I wind up getting too caught up in here and never get my work done. ;)

How will you be spending your Thanksgiving? :)
At home with my family.
I will start off the day sleeping in late.
Then get some reading in while watching football. Or work on my latest latchhook rug (3 lab puppies) while watching football.
Eat lots of turkey, mashed potatos, stuffing, cranberry sauce, string bean casserole, and other stuff.
Then either nap or watch some more football.
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well! :)

Hi AngelAmidala . What's your favourite Christmas memory?

Hi!
I guess I would have to say when I was younger and my whole family would travel to one of my great-aunt and uncle's houses and see that whole side of the family. When we were younger, after dinner, we were allowed to play Christmas carols on their organ and sometimes my sister and I would sing and play our flutes.

Did you make any New Year's resolutions? :)

Did you make any New Year's resolutions? :)
Nope. I more or less made a list of goals for 2007. I think resolutions tend to be things that we wind up saying...and put so much focus on doing them right from the first of the year...that we burn out and by mid-January we've broken every resolution made. Not all people...but in general. I know I fit that category perfectly.
So I made goals...things that throughout 2007 I'm sure I can accomplish.
1) See Superchic[k] in concert
2) Meet Aviad Cohen in person
3) See BarlowGirl in concert
4) See the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in concert at least once, maybe twice
5) Lose at least 20 pounds
6) Read at least 10 books
7) Try to not eat so much junk for snacks at work
:)
Hope you are having a great new year so far! :)

(I like this one the most ).
Do you have any favorite books?

Heh...it's one of my favorites too. When I changed work schedules (now I work 8:30am to 5pm) I found that even after doing my classwork (I work at a college, get tuition benefits, so take a class or two each semester) at home I had time to read before getting on to listen to church services or have my family TV time. And I so missed having regular reading time!
Anyway, to your question itself.
TONS!!
I've become a Kathy Reichs fan. A friend of mine did some research work for her a few books back and got thanked in the "credits" section at the beginning of the book. I bought it just to have the book since it said his name in it. But then I started reading it and I found I really, really enjoy her writing.
I'm also a fan of the Dune series (the original stuff by Frank Herbert and the subsequent stuff written by his son along with Kevin J. Anderson).
Obviously the Bible. ;)
Tolkien is also someone I've sort of re-discovered thanks to the Lord of the Rings movies. I had that trilogy plus The Hobbit way before the movies came out and read through them. But when the movies started coming out I re-read them and got more out of them...I guess because I was older.
And any sort of theological books I can get my hands on. I don't have a particular writer that I buy all their books of. But while I can't remember most of it, reading about theology really intrigues me.
And there are probably others I'm forgetting. Right now I'm currently reading the 3rd book in the Master and Commander series by Patrick O'Brien (H.M.S. Surprise). :)

I'm having a busy great year too. :)
Do you regularly exercise? If so, what do you do? http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4/redgifs/smilies/a343a.gif

I'm trying.
About once a week I get to a gym I got a great membership deal on through my chiropractor called Planet Fitness. They seem to be mostly located in the northeast, though they are branching out across the US. Their deal is that they're a "judgement free zone" - so you can feel comfortable walking in there and not being looked at like you "don't belong" because you're not already in shape or you're not a certain age or whatever. I got that feeling a lot from the gym on campus.
Right now I do the treadmill and stationary bike. Twenty minutes on each...with some stretching in between. Plus when it's nice out, walking around campus.

Sorry I didn't see your question until now!
Ooo....my own special TV lineup! :D
I'd pick Wednesdays (it's the only day I don't really have something going on after work).
And as far as shows....
7pm CSI
8pm CSI: NY
9pm ER
10pm Numb3rs
:)
I know...heavy drama night...but they're all really great shows...and shows I enjoy. :)

LOL - for my sister she stopped watching once Malucchi (sp?) was off. hehe...I wind up liking new characters as my other favorites leave. I'm a huge Carol Hathaway fan and felt sad when she left but now I'm really enjoying Abby (could be that I really like the actress too).

Bring on the questions! If questions are great! :)
Though this one is a tough one.
Maybe "Because He Lives." It was sung at my grandmother's funeral and ever since then from time to time I have a hard time singing that song even though I really like it. So I'd like to be able to sing it beautifully and perfectly again. :)

Do you have any Easter traditions, you do each year? :)

Do you have any Easter traditions, you do each year? :)
Easter baskets. Yes, even at age 30 my family still does Easter baskets. I'm still using the same basket that I had when I was like 2 years old. I think it's kind of a fun thing for my mom though because like me, she likes seeing reactions to people when they get something.
And every year I eat 1 jelly bean (usually red) before heading out to church with my family. And lunch is a hard boiled egg.
