Do you understand the role of the many 'strangers' in scripture ?
Do you understand the role of the called who are not those chosen by God as His elect? [Many are called but few are (the) chosen]

By Strangers do you refer to the "Good" Samaritan who was a stranger to the Gentile, but yet stopped to help him out? If so, then yes. Strangers are called to help people without knowing them. "Love those who do you wrong. If we only love those who love us what is achieved. Do not the tax collecters do this?" I couldnt find the verse so forgive me if it isnt completely acurate.
By your second point do you refer to Calvinism? Im not sure I agree with that veiwpoint. For Christ came that all may have Salvation, not just the "elect".

I wasn't specifically referring to the good Samaritan , rather to such scriptures as :-
Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Isa 62:8 The LORD hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
Psa 69:7 Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.
8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.
9 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
2Ch 6:32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
2Ch 6:33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
Eph 2:11 ¶ Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eze 47:22 And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
Joe 3:17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
De 28:43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
Ex 12:43 And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof:
Ex 12:48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
Ex 12:49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.
Ex 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Ex 29:33 And they shall eat those things wherewith the atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy.
Le 19:34 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
Nu 3:10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest’s office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.
De 23:20 Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
Eze 44:9 Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.
Eze 14:7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
By your second point do you refer to Calvinism? Im not sure I agree with that veiwpoint. For Christ came that all may have Salvation, not just the "elect".

Then who's on the new earth in the New Jerusalem?
Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

I've already asked some questions here, but if you're wanting more I'm very happy to oblige :)
What subjects are you studying at school (Highers?) and what do you plan to do when you finish school? Year out? University? Straight into a job somewhere?
Kilted Stranger
14th September 2005, 06:21 PM
Last Year I started out doing 5 Highers (Maths, English, Geography, Biology and Religious, Moral and Philisophical Studies RMPS) I had to drop Maths through the year cause it was rather difficult and im not that way orientated and I failed my Biology. I got a B in English and Geography and a C in RPMS.
This year I am taking Adv Higher Geography, Higher Drama and Crash Higher Music.
Once I leave 6th year, I hope to go straight to University to study Divinity and to get my Batchelor of Divinity (BD) and then go to the church to enter into the Ministry.
I eventually want to become a Chaplain within a Childrens Hospital. :)
What do you work as?

Hey, you've got it sorted! :clap:
Good choice of degree and job by the way. Any idea which University? When you graduate from Edinburgh University, you get 'doffed' with an item of John Knox's clothing, rumour has it...
Coincidentally, I work in a childrens hospital! I work with grownups too (we move between the different hospitals in town), but I like the Kids best.

Wise thoughts :)
My sister had Edinburgh as her favourite this year, but didn't get an offer. She's starting at Nottingham next week
I did my first degree at Edinburgh Uni, and I'm doing my research doctorate there now. I normally surf CF when I'm supposed to be working on my thesis :help:
That sounds awesome :D What do you do when you go in?
I research during the week, so I only cover the hospital at nights and weekends. That means the nurses call me if a kid is sick, or needs to go to the operating theatre, and I go and see the kid and their parents, and operate if necessary, or just take care of them on the ward.
Sometimes it's really sad, especially working with kids who have incurable things :( I've had a few good chats with the nurses and auxillary staff, and they all say it's difficult for them not to get upset too. But most of the children (and their families!) are so incredibly brave, they could be an example to many.
