I can't confirm it or anything, but I think someone mentioned once that AngelAmidala liked Star Wars. I mean, it could just be a rumor.

Anyone else disenfranchised with Star Wars after the recent three and the, ugh, 'edits' of the old three?

Yup. I have original VHS copies of the movies, and I prefer them by far.

I assume the "Special Editions" and the DVDs with a few sceens here and there changed a bit.

Sorry Snowy!

Most of the edits to the old ones are childish in nature, adding cartoony characters or situations into the background of various scenes, cluttering a lot. There's a musical number in episode VI now, very cheesy. There's even a political change to episode IV, where an alien bounty hunter Han Solo previously just shot now is made to pull a gun on Han so Han can kill him in self defense... Give us a break! Mostly it's just goofier. Han Solo also talks to a digital Jabba now, also in episode IV, and Han's tone and the goofy look, dialogue, and tone of Jabba absolutely destroy any illusion you might have had that characters were supposed to be afraid of Jabba. It's all a mess.

While they did edit all of them a bit, wasn't it, by far, the original Star Wars movie that was edited the most? I seem to recall that ILM was newly created for the first movie and, hence, still in their infancy, so the special effects were not all that special. That is what I recall.

They had originally wanted a scene of Han talking to Jabba, but didn't have the technology to create him. They should have left that scene out, it doesn't hold a candle to the Jabba created for Episode VI, and with computer graphics the way they are now, it should have far surpassed it.

THat's the thing, today's technology, is so advanced that the "special effects" that they do are just way to unrealistic anymore.

Nothing holds a candle to the "old school" stuff the Lucas started out with.

The original VCR tapes are the best out of all of them.

The special editions were extremely stupid, for reasons Ryder has already pointed out. Dagnabbit, Han shot first! I'm also not a big fan of the prequels except possibly Revenge of the Sith.

Naaaah, I'm an Original Trilogy and Expanded Universe hound all the way. Go Timothy Zahn! :D

Ryder
1st September 2005, 11:23 AM
Thrawn was cool, if a little messed up. Zahn did a service to the Star Wars universe trying to make their military tactics make at least some sense. That never seemed to happen for Star Trek...

Heh...and was anyone bugged out by the "new" ending of Return of the Jedi when we saw the old Obi-Wan and the old Yoda...but the young, very pre-turning Dark Side Anakin?

Bah....

Pitched one heck of a fit when I saw that. :D

Tenorvoice
1st September 2005, 03:32 PM
I at first thought that it was kind of cool......but then I got to thinking, why did Obi-Wan not come back as young as he was (since it appeard to me that Ankian came back when he was in his prime? and why not have Quigon (sp) come back too? where would it end) they should have left well enough alone IMO!

Hmm... might be shocking to some, but even though I remember going by the theaters and seeing the long lines that went around the block for people wanting to see Star Wars when it first came out years ago, I've never, ever seen all of Star Wars. I've seen all the others but Star Wars itself... nope not yet. Maybe someday.

The original Star Wars movie is my "most seen in a theatre" movie. 7 times. The Empire Strikes Back follows with 5. I never see a movie just once.

It is really helpful that we get into the movies for free at the Cinema Saver (my husband became friends with the owner and helped build the theatres). We get in free now to anything we want to see, as often as we want to see it. :D
