My recollection is that a single busy forum at CF was more moderation activity than any three other forums I've been involved in.

Well... I've been an Admin on a board about a quarter this many members, and far less threads/posts and forums... and it was next to no work. I could literally do everything I needed to do in half an hour a day. On CF, I'm an Sr. Mod, not Admin, and it takes hours each day if I intend to stay in front of the curve.... So, I'd say the workload is very high compared to my other experiences.

And we appreciate every little bit of it Erwin! You do an awesome job here and we are so proud of the work you do! It truly is a blessing.
I applied to be a moderator last week and decided to retract my application because I figured it would be a busy job, and I am already busy going to school full-time, working part-time and volunteering... I barely have time for a personal life! Ah well, at least I can still give my part by donating money.
Good job Erwin and staff!

Wait on...the monetary unit of the CF moderator is the report. And 100 reports = 1 migraine. Unfortunately the exchange rate's about as poor as anything :D
And this is my only active modding job - I once was a mod in a small Christian messageboard that is pretty dormant now. Plus I have expressed my interest in modding a growing forum for Australian/New Zealand Dave Matthews Band fans that I'm a member of, which I will talk about no longer hence it seem like self promotion...:o

no----would have no interest--too busy with life and with CF
My recollection is that a single busy forum at CF was more moderation activity than any three other forums I've been involved in.
I don't have any experience with others, but I'll tell you that CF keeps you busy--especially in the debate area. Some mods handle more than one of those fora, but I'm barely keeping up with one, plus my other areas.

Going OK in Staffland. Yes, I moderate two other Forums as well as CF. On one, I am high up on staff. Another I mod is pretty well redundant now so I won't include that. Here, I moderate 23 Forums, GA, P&M. LT & NCR coming in as the top High Traffic, the other's are a bit quieter. The other Forums I moderate are a breeze.

I think a forum for ex-staff is a great idea, hopefully someone will put a request in for it shortly, or I will. Often times when folks leave, one rarely hears from them, and thats kinda sad. Apart from institutional memory, their are a multitude of issues where such a forum could add a lot of value. The only down side of course is keeping the confidentiality stuff square.
That being said, prayers for ex-staffer Alabamaman *now BamaPastor (http://bamapastor.christianforums.com/)* are appreciated. He posted a request in men's corner. (http://www.christianforums.com/t5610715-prayer-needed.html)
Getting back to the OP
So, how's it going in staff land? I've always been curious, do any of you have moderator gigs elsewhere, and if so, how do you compare the experience at CF to other gigs?
My recollection is that a single busy forum at CF was more moderation activity than any three other forums I've been involved in.
Yep, I mod 2 yahoo groups, plus, admin a public and a members only secular board. I've also got a domain for a denominational forum, but running it proved to be too intensive, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. Deleting 50+ spam posts a day for one guy is insane..... and that was after I put in fixes to stop the bots!
CF is very unique, the community being so diverse makes rules and policy quite challenging. I have to step back, and try to look at the views of numerous denominations, as well as countries and cultures. Thats not an issue for the most part for my other gigs. Partly due to much lower traffic, but mostly due to a much narrower focus, it ends up that things are drastically easier in those domains.
Ministry on CF is what you make it, and one has to make it a priority, otherwise official type work would consume all available CF time, sort of a CF variant of Parkinson's law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkinson%27s_law). I also find that my ministry here is mostly along with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Being my role is more administrative than front lines, it makes sense that would be the case.
On secular boards, ministry occurs when God opens the door and I'm receptive to his leading. The workload is a lot less, but the opportunities are quite different. Its somewhat similar to this paraphrase of something I read the other day concerning witness wear.
When one puts on the Christian T-Shirt, one finds opportunities to minister to Christians. When one wears a Fender, or Marshall shirt, one interacts with musicians, and this can open the door to relationship building, which can lead to discussing God and Christianity. Both have a role, both are quite different.
Lel
4th July 2007, 09:48 PM
Paul became like whoever he was preaching to, so that he may reach them for Christ. (see 1 Corinthians 9:19-23) And so CF, with a broad ministry focus, must take on the viewpoint of many members in order that ministry may be effective.

edit options struggle - emails sent to me constantly
The other day I went to the edit/options section of my webpage here on CF.
I was checking something out.
I started getting emails sent to me by CF telling me that other members were making posts to the 56 or so threads I visited recently. I started getting 24 emails at a time. I am still getting those emails.
I thought there may have been an error made when I was at edit/options so I went there again & I have been there several times.
Anytime there are posts to any of the threads I've visited I get emails about it . During heavy online traffic times I am getting emails coming in to my personal email acct. on my outlook express (a business email address) rather rapidly. Lots of deletions because the messages is always the same ---> someone just posted a reply on one of those threads.
I went to some of the threads and asked if anyone else had it happen to them. They told me to once again check and make sure my edit/options had the spot checked that made sure I did not want to receive emails -- I checked it again. NO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS is the thing I have checked.
I sent a message to one of the people at CF that helped me with a problem before. She told me to post a message on the how to forum because as far as she knew the checking of the spot that says NO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS and then saving my changes should take care of the situation.
I am posting this because I don't know what to do next.
I am not getting emails at nearly 2 AM possibly because most of the people that post on the threads I've been using are not online right now. This isn't a normal hour for them to be posting.
ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.... finally the system found out I didn't ask for those emails and I don't want them.
IF anyone knows what I can do to get this repaired please leave a message here or send a message my way.
Thanks and God bless you all.

I think you might get more knowledgeable replies if you posted this in the Report Bugs (http://www.christianforums.com/f397-report-bugs.html) forum.
One thing you might do as a last resort is create a free email account at Hotmail or Yahoo or some other place, and change your CF email to that one, so the annoying emails will just go someplace you never look at.

Good idea..... I have been thinking of getting a new email address.
I cannot easily get rid of the business email address and I will still have to delete them daily as long as those emails keep coming this way.
Oh........ I forgot about the fact that there is an upcoming vacation..... How many emails will be sent in one day...... Looks like over a hundred a day or arriving now. Can get 23 or so in less than a minute

edit options struggle - emails sent to me constantly
The other day I went to the edit/options section of my webpage here on CF.
I was checking something out.
I started getting emails sent to me by CF telling me that other members were making posts to the 56 or so threads I visited recently. I started getting 24 emails at a time. I am still getting those emails.

Try going here: http://www.christianforums.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription
and look at the checkbox on the far right side to see if any are checked. Uncheck them if they are, and save the changes. You may need to go through several pages to find the threads you are receiving emails for.
Let me know if that doesn't fix it.

I went to the page you mentioned and none of those boxes are checked.
I guess this means there are still problems.

emails are probably repaired now
I think I found the way to repair those emails.
Your last suggestion given on a thread was looked at again and it appears I may have accidently clicked on something making some of the subs. to be getting those emails. I must not have realized what I was doing.
I had to click on the boxes and go to the bottom of the page and then press GO after highlighting the section that says NO EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS
I FEEL THIS IS GOING TO WORK.

This site has helped me in many ways.
I am so glad that little problem was tended to.

I had a new problem this morning:
I kept trying to log in and couldn't. I tried resetting the password and couldn't get in no matter what I tried.
Finally after about 10 hours or so I found out the security settings on my computer were set up to high and it prohibited me from logging in on CF.
I have learned this now and will post it a few places so others can read it if they are ever struggling to log in. MAKE SURE THE SECURITY SETTINGS ARE NOT TOO HIGH OR YOUR BROWSER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BROWSE THIS SITE DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO LOG IN.
It was difficult because I didn't have any of my cf friends email addresses until I found one on an open webpage-- that's rare.
I learned a lot.
