Of all the Christian leaders who have died over the last 20 years or so, who do you miss the most?
I always loved listening to J Vernon McGee's program and I miss being on the Bible Bus with him. Who do you miss the most?

Gee... I don't listen to much radio or tv ministries. If I do, they are mostly to certain programs rather than the "person". In the past years, when I am in the "listening mood" (even though I am hard of hearing, I can hear with the help of technology) I have listened to Pastor Jim Custer, Chuck Swindoll, John MacArthur, David Jeremiah and such.
My favs are not from radio or tv ministries... they are authors. :D
I prefer to read rather than listening, its easier for me !! ^_^

That's fine. I wasn't really refering to radio preachers exclusively, just anyone who has ministered to you that is now deceased.

I really miss Gene Scott he was a great teacher.
I really miss him.
My mom used to watch him when he'd sit on a stage smoking his cigars and preach.
I've heard he was a wack job but never saw/heard him so I don't know.

I liked listening to J Vernon McGee when I first became a Christian in 1977-1978.
I quit listening to Bible teaching on the radio when I started Bible school in '78.
My favorite teacher at Bible school was a man named Harry Conn.
He had a PROFOUND impact on my life; not just with his teaching, but by his life. He was a shining example of what it meant to truly live like Jesus.
He died in August 2001.

Hmmmmmm......I guess I'm too young for this one, too.
I enjoy reading DL Moody, CH Spurgeon and the likes. It would have been nice to have heard these men teach. Too bad they didn't have that technology back then to record it.

He was really strange but no one could get a point across like him.
I believe this is why he did some of the outrageous things to get people to notice.
He made the point clear Christians aren't perfect, but yet he was like no other.
He was big in the 80's.
He died about 3 years ago.
Not sure exactly.
He was on satelite.. cable wouldn't carry him to the best of my knowledge.

Mother Teresa? Pope John Paul II?
Both of them did a lot to unite Christians of all denominations and backgrounds, and to inspire all kinds of people to act in Christian love. I hope their church doesn't take a big step backward now that they're gone.

my dad.
He wasn't saved that I know of, but he loved me very much.
It is said that children know the love of the Father through their father.

I have to say, Pope John Paul is high on my list, as is Fr. Taize. I preemptively miss Tony Campolo; we need more of him than we have.

I know my mom would say J Vernon McGee she still listens to the radio program from him on BBN and uses his commentaries.

I miss Robert Cook, too. He's one of the people I have to thank the most when I get to see him. Through his gentle teaching, I learned that Christianity wasn't about living by a set of strict rules.

When he dies, I will miss Billy Graham. Godly man who means and does no harm. Pat Robertson can take lessons from him.

I guess I have not been a Christian long enough for this survey, but I would say that I miss CS Lewis. I also miss a pastor I had when I was a kid, Leonard Gardner.

The one that comes to my mind is John Paul II, and I don't miss him all that much. Mother Teresa is another one.
In the future though the top spot will go to Billy Graham, and something is telling me that he won't have to wait much longer for his reward.

You know it is interesting, I ran into a gal recently that surprised me. She is Baptist I believe or Anabaptist but assured me she was not Catholic. She said I should read Pope John Paul II’s Biography. She said it changed her mind and reinforced How God works with others... I have heard from others his life story is compelling.
I plan to do this sometime -
Other than that I believe I am too young? However lets not talk about loosing Mr. Graham. This world is not ready to have people like him leave us yet :(

I miss Rich Mullins, too. :( His writings and songs influenced me when I was a younger Christian, because of his peace witness and his love for praising God.

Mennonite Evangelist George R Brunk II. He had tent crusades from the 50's into I think the 80's. I heard him do sermons and I have tapes of his crusades-would have been neat to be there during the height of the tent revivals.

~ The late Pop (Kenneth) Hagin was alway a favorite of mine. Good solid Bible based teaching and a humble gentle spirit.
~ My late pastor John Jackson. Great man of God who would wake at 4 in the morning every morning to pray and lift up the members of his congregation by name.
~ Continue to discuss amongst yourselves...

Yep, like 7 or 8 years ago.

I have to say that I miss Rich Mullins too. His music, to this day, touches me and really helps me to focus on Christ. I miss Keith Green too. His story was so inspiring and his music brought a lot of people to God.
I would have to say that I miss H.H. Pope John Paul II. He stood for Christ, and worked hard to bring Christians together. He is a voice for Christ that will be missed. Mother St. Teresa is missed also. I remember hearing of her death and going into true morning. My heart ached for days. She truly showed us what it was to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus.
I liked Kathryn Kuhlman (sp??) too. Her spirit was so sweet. Though she had her issues, she was so loving and was so instrumental in teaching me that I am a broken vessel, but could still be used by God. In fact, that God preferred us that way.

My cousin got healed of inoperable brain cancer at a Katherine Kuhlman event. I know she had her difficulties ( she was divorced and a woman preacher at a time when women were supposed to be housewives) but I am grateful that she gave my family so much faith in God by healing my cousin.

Corrie Ten Boom (author of the Hiding Place, etc.) She was an ordinary person with a great faith and great humility. I often refer to her writings when teaching.

Car accident. :(
Driving too tired, I have heard. Lost control of the car, was thrown out (not wearing seat belt at the time), crushed by an oncoming vehicle.
