Where do the Presbyterians Go?

What does it mean when a Presby church is PCA?

Well I'm not an expert by any means.... but there are two different presbyterians in America
PCA - Presbyterian Church in America
PCUSA - Presbyterian Church of the United States of America

From what I understand the PCA broke off from the PCUSA over some doctrine stuff. I find that PCA services are more contemporary, (not strictly there are a lot of old hymns, and it is pretty conservative, no speaking in toungues or anything) and the PCUSA is much more traditional, the pastors where robes and stuff, all songs are older hymns.

As far as doctrine goes, i know the PCA follows the Westminster Confessional.

I asked one of my elders that, who has been around for the change.... he said the PCA split off due to some MAJOR unbiblical stuff that the PCUSA was teaching. I don't know how much of this is biast or what not, but when I asked him he said the PCUSA was accepting pastors that said really unbiblical stuff like Hell did not exist.

He mentioned some others, but the only one I remember is that Hell did not exist.

Of course a member of a PCUSA might get on here and debate that, I dunno, I'm just saying what I heard. I've attended service at two different PCUSA... one was completely wierd, very traditional and the Pastor reminded us of Mr. Rogers.. so we didn't go there..

Then we really thought about one. The pastor was really pretty good, but everyone there was older, all the hymns were old .. and it's really didn't look like a growing church.

I think the PCA in general is growing pretty rapidly... ours needs more seats. it's hard coming in late...

The service is kinda geared for traditional and contemporaty... we sing some contemporay and at least one hymn each service. .. Two Guitar players during contemporary...

One thing I dislike.... You can't clap... if someone plays a piano peice or sings for the offering or something... no one claps... i think that is stupid. They feel only god should get the glory..

I remember the first time I heard clapping in my UPC church--everyone was so amazed, it seemed they were clapping at the fact we were clapping. That broke through the barrier permanently.

There were some splits over liberal theology, peaking five or ten years ago. The people make the church, though, and sometimes vary from their titled theology. If you've found what you like, go for it.
