Do certain Bible translations go with certain denominations, I am pretty cloudy on all the definitions and reasons . . . I was just curious if my Bible preferences could lead me to a decision - or is it better to remain without denomination? Does the Bible specify? Probably not since there were no denominations then . . . so are there some basic arguments between most denominations? I hope this is the right forum to ask this in . . . I had a hard time deciding.

Not specific denominations, as far as Protestant Bibles go. There are certain translations that only Catholics use (Duhay-Raims, New Jerusalem, New American Bible). But as far as Protestants go, it really depends. There are some ultra-traditional churches that believe you should only read the King James Bible. I say ultra-traditional rather than conservative because this is a tradition of man, not a preservation of what the Early Church taught. The King James is still alright, but English has changed since 1611 when it was published. A lot of good churches use the New American Standard Bible or the New International Version. These can be conservative or moderate. Liberal churches use other translations, some good, some not so good. But what matters is what is being taught.
I am personally non-denominational. It has its advantages, though there is a good variety of what non-denominational churches teach. There are probably a good deal of non-denominational churches that teach something completely different from what my church teaches. Also, you'll find various differences between churches within a denomination.

Hi again twisted! I've had a hard time finding a church, and understanding all the discrepencies within Christianity. It feels like after becoming a believer I immediately was lost again trying to learn more and . . . I just feel so thirsty to understand . . . and I can't absorb everything at once . . . I also need to learn there are no easy answers!

I personally attend a nondenominational church.....but I think that it really doesnt matter what denomination you attend as long as that Church acknowledges The Father, Son , and HolySpirit......that Christ died on the cross for our sins, that HE is risen, that He is the only way to inherit salvation....that the Holy Bible is the Holy Spirit inspired word of God.....and that Christ will come again...avoid cult groups claiming to belong to Christianity......i wont say names but they are notrious for what they do.....pm me and i will tell u who they are.....they dont acknowledge that Christ is risen and they do not acknowlege the Holy Bible as God's word in fact they use a distorted Bible and extra books which God warns us all about in revelations....Know ur word and what God believes regarding His kingdom , love for u, etc so that you will not be decieve by the false prophets among us.

One thing I've learned quickly is that the more I learn, the more I get lost. The more I get lost, the more I have to learn. The more I have to learn, the more I am thirsty and cannot absorb it all. The more I seek, the more complicated the answers appear.
It's wonderful, but it can sometimes be a frustrating cycle. Best wishes, thoughts, prayers, and smileys! ;)

I think some of the denominational debates (NOT ALL), but some are just spliting hairs.
Can I give you an example?
When Jesus was tempted by satan, satan quoted "scripture" revised scripture, Jesus did not stand up and say.. oh what bible are you using, He requoted the CORRECT scripture and moved on. I listen to bible debates all the time.. Yes I know there werent any bibles then, like we have now, but it was an example.
I have found others who will live by one verse and leave others out...
Anyways...
I attend General baptist, but I am not a baptist, although I believe a lot of what my church believes, but if I was to actually go out on my own and find a church just for me, I would probably end up at a pentacostal church, but I follow Gods lead and at this time I attend baptist. I am not choosing a denomination nor will I ever decide to choose one, even if I attended a pentacostal church, i still wouldnt be pentacostal....
I thought at one time I needed to choose a denomination, but I found out I didnt need to. I needed to be a believer and do Gods will.. Thats it!

That makes sense to me. I don't think I could find a denomination with nothing that I disagree with and everything that I do . . .that's so highly unlikely that I don't even think it's worth trying!

Since there was only one denomination in the beginning, and since Jesus promised that his Church would remain visible and teach true doctrine every day forever, then perhaps it would be a good idea to find out which denomination was the first and join that one.
If you find a denomination that has a theology that always makes you feel comfortable, RUN, don't walk, RUN!!!
Yes, unfortunately there are arguments between the denominations, if there weren't then there wouldn't be more than one.

Hi lostinthought.
Do not worry about denominations too much. Christ called us to be in His Church where we all belong and that is the Church of fellowship, in Christ.
When you think about this, keep these verses close in your heart:
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Romans 11:6
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Salvation is a gift from God, it cannot be earned.
Isaiah 53:5
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Jesus suffered for us so that we wouldnt have to suffer.
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Matthew 23:8
But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
One is mediator between God and men and that is our Lord Jesus Christ.
God bless.

Also I recommend King James Bible (not the modern KJV) because it's good translation and it has helped me to understand God's word which many other Bible translations have perverted making it difficult if not impossible to understand the true meaning of the verses.
