What is the common prayer/Service book in Lutheranism?
I come from Anglicanism and I am used to the BCP.
The Lutheran Church I attend uses something called the "Service book and Hymnal".
Is there a common book or is it denom by denom?

The ELCA usually uses the Lutheran Book of Worship
The LCMS officially endorses it's cousin Lutheran Worship and will soon be putting out the Lutheran Service Book.
Some churches use The Lutheran Hymnal which was published in 1941 with a second publishing in 1957. The ELS uses the Lutheran Hymnary.
We don't use a Book of Common Prayer like the Anglican/Episcopalian church. They tend to seek that out more than the Bible for answers. We do have the Book of Concord to answer questions on doctrinal positions that are part of our confessions.

Well, Scott...think about this. As we pray...so we believe. If the Lutheran hymnals do not appropriately confess what is believed such that they are not or cannot become a key source from which to quote and teach...well then, something has gone horribly awry.

SBH was published in 1958 by the churches that would eventually form the ELCA. Many in the ELCA consider it a better hymnal than the LBW which replaced it starting in 1978. Here is an article on it.

I have the SBH, and I like it better than the LBW. :P My church uses the LBW in combination with some newer supplements though.

There are also books for private and public prayer like Oremus III produced by Seminaries.

Since nothing but scripture can help us to appropriately confess what is believed I would be the first to say that we can not rely on materials published by man to do so. However, I have not found fault yet with the LW or TLH that shows anything but a Christocentric liturgy and confession.

Good Job Scott. That is why the Church has always so strongly urged people to pray the Lord's Prayer, 3 times a day, (Didache). Also why the Psalms are urged to be said, and are planted in the Eucharistic Liturgy, as well as Matins, Vespers and Complines. However, the Holy Ghost is at work in the Church and does so pray for every Christian, as we cannot pray on our own. So if the Church were to publish a book of Prayer, it would do so out of the Holy Ghost, and so praying things, such as the litany, collects, etc. are much to be recomended.
Let us not forget though that verbal prayer is only one form.

The WELS uses a hymnal called simply "Christian Worship" that they replaced the TLH with a few years ago.
