I know I must sound terribly ignorant, forgive me. Regarding the study on human sexuality within ELCA, what has happened? Er... or rather, has the ELCA reaffirmed it's constitutions regarding active homosexual clergy or not?
O_o; *tries to make sense*

The resolution regarding the ordaining of homosexual clergy failed. It would have required a 2/3 vote, but it didn't even get a simple majority. The vote was 503-490.
The resolution on blessing same-sex couples also failed, but in a round-about way. The wording was changed to affirm current practice, and expresses "trust" in pastors ministering to gays and lesbians.

I am sickened that any Christian feels that homosexuality must be accomodated within Christian Life. Toleration is one thing, but to accomodate????? This is disturbing.

Yeah, I think there is a big difference in telling somebody that they are a sinner, but that we are all sinners, no sin is bigger than another, and God forgives us our sins through grace; and saying that someone's sin is not a sin.

Sin is to be hated. The person who sins isn't.
But this truly blows my mind how some people believe we have to actually vote on a matter that is clear-cut from the Holy Scriptures!!!
I don't know what is truly happening but I'll say one thing.
The Reformation was meant to correct error. Now today we ourselves are distorting Christianity by believing that we have to entertain the idea of homosexuality within the congregation!!!
Soon they will call us "LUTHERANS! NOT REFORMED, BUT DEFORMED!!!"
This disturbs me greatly and it should disturb all of you as well.

Mortanius,
I am a Lutheran Christian by faith. I could go to any church and I would still be a Lutheran Christian. It is a confession of faith and not a place we go. What is sad about the ELCA vote is that after defeating the two measures on Ordaining and Same sex blessings they have agreed to disagree About this matter which means that it will be likely to rear it's ugly head within the next decade or sooner. They want unity for the sake of unity despite the fact that scripture says it is a sin.
NOTA BENE: I am not talking about any one particular congregation or individual but this is my opinion of the results of yesterdays vote. If you want to take issue with it feel free, but I am not going to argue with you ad nauseum about it.

I understand. You are right. The Church is the people, but this is what concerns me. When the body of Christ being the people is infected with division over admitting sin, this just worries me. What else is lurking around?
