ELCA Conference updates
Received this in an e-mail forward, if you want to know what's going on day by day here's a link:
Dear friends,
As you may know, the churchwide assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is convened this week in Orlando, FL. You have an opportunity to follow the discussions and presentations by going to http://elca.org (http://elca.org/).
Many items are on the long agenda of this week-long meeting. The assembly just approved communion fellowship with the United Methodist Church. Later they will discuss and vote on various items relating to the ELCA's official positions on practicing homosexuals in committed relationships who want to join the ministry of our church, and the issue of the church blessing same-sex unions. Bishop Hanson and the Church Council support a compromise position on the latter two questions, wanting to show both openness and caution--as the membership of the ELCA is virtually equally divided in its response to these two issues.
You can follow the happenings of the assembly by going to http://elca.org (http://elca.org/) and selecting any of the highlighted links for more detailed information. This is an excellent site that is constantly updated.
You can also follow the activities in real time by activating one of two possible LIVE Webcast sources available on the ELCA home page. When I attempted to do this, I got radio-like coverage with slow motion pictures. Perhaps with a better computer you will have more of a television-type experience. Either way, it is fascinating to listen in to the discussions of the worldwide ELCA.
I encourage you to drop in once or twice a day to http://elca.org (http://elca.org/) and follow what is happening. And, I ask that you add the ELCA, Bishop Hanson, and members of the assembly to your prayer list this week, as we did last Sunday morning, as the assembly prayerfully considers many important issues.
