Hi Everyone,

Being a new Christian I am looking a lot into building up my relationship with God. I have started reading a book called "you can hear the voice of God" by Steve Sampson. According to him it is possible to have daily "conversations" with God. Obviously not in a literal sense but through the spirit. I have been praying with my spirit language and asking for a feeling or a message but I'm afraid I feel no response.

Can people share their experience when they felt like God "spoke" to them for the first time?

Does anybody hear from god Daily?

"...man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord." (Deut 8:3)

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. the words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63)

"My sheep hear My Voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27)

God spoke to us through prophets and through Jesus. It is written down in books and the books are combined together in the Bible. God has told us all we need to know in the Bible.

And we pray to God, that is us speaking to God. And we read the Bible. If you know your Bible well enough you will know which parts to refer back to when you are dealing with certain issues. Most Bible's will have a section in the back with book/verse references for important issues we face, that can also be very helpful.

If you are waiting for "warm & fuzzy" feelings and take that as a sign from God then you have been mislead.

Learn your Bible, read it every day and pray all the time. And don't expect to see a burning bush with God talking to you or you may be dissapointed. :)

God Bless.

I think if you look for Jesus, you'll find him. That's been a big revelation for me. I used to look for satan and demons in everything from Harry Potter to music. Even in other believers, especially the famous ones. If you're looking for Jesus, though, you're bound to find him in unexpected places like junkies and secular poetry for example.

I don't think God's word is limited to the bible or a voice roaring out of the sky. I think he's often subtle. Also, notice how God created the entire universe by speaking. His word creates something. When he creates something good in your life, like love for your neightbour, that's him speaking right there.

YES! i can talk with God. but it isnt like when you are carrying on a conversation with another person. its different you know, its like when i am seeking God's opinion on something and i ask Him, all of a sudden something on the subject that i would have never thought of comes through my head. i dont hear a voice or nothing but something (well God) tells me.

after my car wreck i had to get a new car (well not new new but another car). i prayed and prayed and prayed and asked God to get me the car He would have me in. now God knows i am a Cadillac man. right before i went to the dealership (i was looking at a pontiac and was going to get it) when i felt God saying "Don't rush when you get there." well i went in and started to work on the deal when my dad showed up and told me about a 10 year loan and so i rushed to get an EXT (i was also rushing that pontiac). well needless to say neither worked out. on my way out i saw a beautiful 2003 Cadillac CTS. i asked how much and it was just under 30k. i test drove it and knew it was going to be as expensive as the EXT (neither were new, both 2k3 models) so i didnt figure it would work anyway. so while test driving i felt as if God was telling me to work on it. i was like "there aint no way but i ll try." so we go in (my max affordability is 350 a month) and work on the deal. well my dad gets them to drop the price from 29995 to 24600. well i was going to put 2k down and all that but it was still 396 bucks a month. at that point i was like "God, it isnt going to work out." (in my head). I literally felt God say "Dont worry, I am working this." the next moment my dad asked how much the apr is. the guy had the wrong thing in the computer! he did it again and guess what the monthly payment was. 346 bucks! and He talks to me and does things for me that He doesnt have to but He loves me and knows i give Him the praise (in good times and bad). sometimes i dont even ask, He just does them. my God is an awesome God indeed! and I love Him very much!

God does answer prayers but I still think our main source is the Bible.

Since we are on the topic I'll throw in a few experiences I had.

When I was just about to become a Christian, I wasn't sure if it was all going to work, I wasn't sure if God would listen to my prayers, etc etc etc. I prayed that God would give me a sign. I was reading the Bible those days, mostly the gospels. On a sunny day with no clouds around, I prayed that God show me a sign. I said in my prayer "God, if you are listening, I pray that you make it rain, just a little to show me you are listening". I prayed in Jesus' name. Guess what? Within half an hour on the clear sunny day some misty clouds appeared & we got some drizzle.

Ok, coincidence is it? That's what I thought too.

After the clouds cleared up, I prayed the same thing again, and again the clouds came in within a couple of hours & we got another drizzle.

Coincidence? The next day I did it again. I thought 3 times on a sunny day is a miracle enough.

This happened about just over a year ago.

And God has spoken to me in other ways too.

I was considering changing Churches, I was unsure about denominations. I was praying a lot for a couple of months, I was unsure, I was reading up, and I was almost ready to change Churches. My Church was excellent, they tought the Bible well, the people were great & genuine.

One night towards the end of making my final decision about changing Churches, I had a dream. But a bit of an explanation about where I was, I was on my birthday and my wife took me away on a short trip. We were in a hotel and we arrived at night. I wasn't very aware of the surroundings. I saw a Church across the street but thats about it. This will make sense in a moment.

You know those vivid dreams we remember as soon as we wake up? Thats the kind of dream it was. In my dream I was in a green field and there was a rainbow. I was told that what I was looking for was right there under the rainbow. I went there and there was nothing. I was looking directly up and the rainbow was pointing directly down at me. And there was nothing else. I said "what am I looking for? there is nothing here." and the voice again said "what you are looking for is right here". I then woke up.

I walked out of the hotel that morning and there was a beautiful rainbow, with the end pointing right down at the cross on the Church across the street. It was of the same denomination as the one I go to now but I don't think that was the message. I think the message was the cross and that where I am now is exactly where God wants me to be right now and now is not the time for a change.

This happened 4 months ago.

Also there are little things. There was something said in a forum here on CF just a few days ago that got me really concerned and got little doubts in my head festering about 2 subjects. I prayed about them. THat night before I went to bed I picked up a book I hadn't looked at much before in the bookshelf, it was a Christian apologetics book. I flicked through some bits and found something I was interested in. Then I looked across the page and whamo the answer to one of my questions was right there. The next morning in the car I was praying about the 2nd question I had. Then I turned the radio on to listen to my daily devotional as I do each morning. Guess what the topic was? :D My second question answered right there on the spot.

I'm not sharing these with you so you go searching for answers in places. I believe when God wants to communicate with you He will. THe Bible tells us not to test God. So the standard method of hearing God's word is still definitely the Bible.

PS: These are all real, hope you don't think I'm crazy. ;)

You sound a lot like me when I was trying to understand that I was hearing from God. I got so caught up in "hearing" God that I didn't realize that God was speaking to me the whole time.

Can people share their experience when they felt like God "spoke" to them for the first time?

I'll share the first time I remember Him talking to me. At that time my mother was in the hospital dying of cancer and the side effects of the treatments. Anyways, I had a dream that I was standing in the doorway of my mother's bedroom and this beautiful golden light was over her and I yelled out "no God, not yet" (please note I was not saved at this time, but I always believed in God because I was told there was a God) the light left from my mother, my mother then sat up in her bed and said "why did you do that, I'm ready to go, bring God back to me" I sighed said okay and then the next thing I knew that same light come from behind me and it was as if the light went through me. There was no voice yet it was the warmest, most loving embrace I've ever experienced and although I heard nothing I was told "it will be okay, I have you".

You might ask God a question in prayer then the next thing you know, your pastor is preaching about it, or you turn on the tv, radio and it's being talked about, or you read something and in your spirit you know - God answered you.

Whatever you do, don't limit your hearing from God to a way you "feel" or think you should hear from Him - you'll end up frustrated that way.

Also, one thing God is teaching me is knowing Him and His presence is not about a feeling, it's so much more than that.

Does anybody hear from god Daily?

I believe we do, to me the question is do we always realize it. For me I honestly have to say no I don't. A lot of times I'll realize it after the fact.

"...man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord." (Deut 8:3)

"My sheep hear My Voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27)

In your seeking stay encouraged and know that God is hearing you and answering you. The intimacy you desire is a process so say at it.

God Bless!!!

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. " - Romans 12:1-2

First, you have to surrender to God. Second, renew your mind - that means you learn from the Bible the basics of God's will for your life. Does He wantyou to be an artist? Maybe, maybe not. But from the Bible you will definitely find that He doesn't want you to be a liar. Or a drug addict. Or a lawbreaker. Within the framework of Scripture, which is full of absolute truths, we can then test God's will. You can't trust every feeling in your heart or thought in your head. It needs to agree with Scripture, and if it does not, toss it. It's not from God. Learn everything Scripture has to say about a given issue, so you're not thrown off by a half-truth:

"Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple."If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
- Matthew 4:5-7

What I have found is that God speaks to us all the time. He wants to dish out his blessings all the time.
Don't limit God to feelings or certain types of communication. He can and will use anything to speak to us. Let's pray for clarity on this matter, that we truly begin to keep our eyes and ears open. That we will recognise God's voice, whatever way it takes shape. If it is the Mighty Thunder as in Psalm 29...(Read this by the way!) or a quite voice, or in creation, or something in a newspaper, or in the Bible itself. God Speaks! and He Is speaking to you!
Peace

Hi,

I too am a new Christian and have often wondered if I can hear God's voice. I feel God the Father has been extremely gracious with me in revealing himself to me through providence, amazing "coincidences", and through revelation of the Bible (that before I came to Christ new nothing of). All praise to our Father in Heaven! I believe I can hear God's voice when I meditate - to me it sounds like a voice from a distant memory - but this is not as important to me as reading His Word.
Praise be to the Father and good luck in your walk!
Amen.

I believe God speaks to us but be aware that Satan wants to speaks to us too which he does to those who prefer he's words over God's.
God is most merciful in every answers He gives to us but I believe we need the wisdom to understand what He is saying inside our heads and that wisdom comes from God only which we can request by praying and studying God's will by reading the Bible.

Psalms 103:20
Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

Job 34:16
If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
- Elihu to Job

James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
