So as the dog days of summer come to a close you may be contemplating where to go on vacation.
Cruise to Aruba? Too cliche
Camping in the mountains? Too Boy Scouts
Visiting a National Park? Too Smokey the Bear'ish
But alas my friends, do not despair!
Why not go visit the saints this year (http://www.themoscowtimes.com/stories/2005/08/02/015.html)?!
Enjoy!

Maureen

I don't know, my uncle didn't catch the name. :sigh:
I'd really like to know and also where it's going... I'm guessing St Tikhon's because of the Centennial... but who knows... ARGH!

I'd love to go to the Holy Land, but I'm afraid of being blown up. :( Very sad to see Israel in this state of warfare.

Actually I found out a bit more...
It's the Theotokos of Valaam (Valaam Mother of God), the icon Matrona has as her avatar that is traveling... unfortunately as far as Monk Trifon whom I spoke with knew, it was the only place it will go. :(
So I didn't get to see it, but I saw a very pretty replica. As well as the Konevets Mother of God (another very old miracle working icon) and got to venerate. :crosseo:
I decided not to be like all the tourists and take pictures inside church while it was empty. They discouraged it, but it wasn't forbidden... but I was really torn about it. I got some post cards instead and I'll scan those (as well as some books). I did take some pics of the church on the outside and of the mosaic icon of Sts Sergei and Herman.

Matthew 19:26
But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Mark 9:23
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

I was noodling around the web this morning and stumbled on this (http://www.tkinter.smig.net/Romania/TomsRomania/index.htm) web site today. The guy has some amazing pictures of Romania, which is a country I really want to visit.
