I am looking into Lutheranism as many of you know.

While I am finding many doctrines to be True, such as Sola Scriptura and Faith Alone (however never a faith that is alone), I still wonder over issues such as the pope being considered the antiChrist.

What must I believe to be considered Lutheran? The Creeds? The entire Book of Concord?

(No offense to ELCA Members, but I will not consider the ELCA for the same reasons I did not consider ECUSA as an Anglican.)

Personally I don't hold that the man holding the office of the papacy himself is the anti-christ, but that the office he holds is. It is not a requirement to agree with this though. I think that as long as you agree with the Apostles and Nicene Creeds that you will be just fine.

I will say the following with respect to your ideas, but not agree with them.

Notions of the AntiChrist being the Pope are wrongful and meant to fuel anti-Roman Catholic notions.

Such ideas should not be used to enter your faith.

Afterall, the very elect and wise will be decieved by the AntiChrist, and lets pray that none of us are decieved, especially when I know I'm not among the very elect of the faithful.

What should be expected of you? Everything and nothing.

Expect the worst, pray for the best, and God Willing, you will find the peace of mind you seek.

I'm sorry if you find some of what I say a bit direct and stern, but I think you will find that your question can only be answered by experience, and not the wise words spoken from the Bible from the "un-wise" who much like you are learning and growing with you.
