Sorry for going into another post before writing this. I should have introduced myself first, but anyways.

My name is John. I am a Catholic who was once Proteatant. I began my Christain life as a Methodist (UMC) and later went to an Assembly of God for a while in highschool and then an Immanuel Baptist Church and a non-denominational group while in college. After college, I went back the the UMC for a while until goingan Immanuel Lutheran Church (ELCA) for about a year. After that, I became Catholic.

I decided to check out the Lutheran forum mainly in regards to ecumenism. Among the Protestant churches I've been a part of, I hold a place in my heart for Methodists and Lutherans. One reason being is that my Mother is a Methodist and my Father is a Lutheran.

Anyways, I hope to get to know a few of my brethren in Christ on here and share views in ecumenical fellowship.

Peace be with you,

John

Welcome!! My brother was brought up Lutheran, the lady he married is Catholic so he joined the catholic church. There is a fairly new monastery not far from me that I like to go visit every once in awhile, its so peaceful there.
Well anyway God Bless

Hello and welcome John

I'm not sure what you mean by ecumenical fellowship. Are you refering to the fellowship of the whole Christian church or WCC's definition of it or are you refering to the Roman Catholic ecumenism? Ecumenical, I thought, meant the whole Christian church but nowdays the conotation seems to have changed.

Thank you. My brother has kind of been 'unchurched' for a while. Well, pretty much my close family has been that way, son I'm really the only religious one. That was part of the reason I had decided to go the the Luthrean Church, being that it was the same one my Dad was Baptized in. I don't know if he was also Confirmded there, but I believe my Uncle was. From what I hear, he still tries to attend church fairly regularly.

Haven't visited a monastery yet. Been to four parishes in my dioces - the Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart, Christ the King, and St. Joseph. Well I did go to the one where we met the bishop at the dioces, but can't remember the name. But I do remember the bishop, who happened to visit the parish I was taking RCIA at and is pretty good friends with the priest there.

Well anyway God Bless

May God bless you as well. :)

Well, The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition (2000) defines it as follows:

Of worldwide scope or applicability; universal.

a. Of or relating to the worldwide Christian church.

b. Concerned with establishing or promoting unity among churches or religions.

If we think 'universal', I guess we could consider this fellowship 'catholic' with a little c. Regarding the worldwide Christain Church, that would seem fairly plausible if we consider that anyone from any Christian church from around the world could come in this forum and fellowship. And I think being concerned with establishing and promoting some form of unity within fellowship seems to be another good thing to consider in this sort of ecumenical fellowship I'd hope to strive for.

However the main purpose is to get to know fellow brethren in Christ and thusly fellowship under the banner of Christ. Sound fair enough? ;)

I'm glad there are Lutherans in the forum that keep up with Latin as well. :D

As DanHead noted, Pax Tecum means "Peace Be With You." And as Radidio also noted, Pax Tecum and Pax Vobiscum mean the same thing. The difference is that Pax Tecum is singular and Pax Vobiscum is plural. Te- is the singular prefix for "you" and Vobis- is the plural. The suffix -cum essentially means "with." And Pax obviously means "peace." The 'be' is inferred as in regards to the action of giving peace.

That's the more detailed answer, but hopefully not overly-detailed to where it is confusing. ;)

BTW, being that I'm not up to date on all the Lutheran sects, what is WELS? I know a bit about the ELCA and the LCMS, but until coming hear, I must admit my ignorance of WELS, ELS, LCC, and ELCIC. Not looking for a huge history lesson, but maybe a brief summary from those who adhear to these sects and any links that you feel might be beneficial information. Please, if you do respond, make sure you give information about your own sect. This is mainly so that no one feels misrepresented.

Pax Vobiscum,

John

OK, brief... Here we go! ;)

WELS - Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. (www.wels.org (http://www.wels.org)). Theologically conservative and the third largest Lutheran church body in the US,

ELS - Evangelical Lutheran Synod. (www.evangelicallutheransynod.org (http://www.evangelicallutheransynod.org)). Also Theologically conservative, and in fellowship with WELS.

LCC - Lutheran Church Canada (www.lutheranchurch-canada.ca (http://www.lutheranchurch-canada.ca)). Basically the LCMS in Canada.

ELCIC - Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. (www.elcic.ca (http://www.elcic.ca)). Basically the ELCA in Canada.

It's SUPPOSED to mean "Rock On!" and is thus used that way by fans of Lost And Found (http://www.speedwood.com) because of a mistake they made once while in Germany. . .it really means "stone on top of"

Cool. Radidio had a good one with 'beer steins up', but 'Rock On!' is pretty cool too. ;)

Our pastor is in Florida right now and a retired pastor is coming and doing the service tomorrow. Well anyway the retired pastor was the pastor of the church I did go to before I came to this one. It will be good to hear him preach again. I'm just tickled.
