Last week in a post I said that an organization called Lutheran Bible Translators was less than a mile from my house.
http://lbt.gospelcom.net/
Well today I paid them a visit. Words cant accurately describe this amazing ministry.
The experience gave me a new understanding of what true devotion to Gods work is.
Essentially they are the coordination center for a worldwide network of missionaries getting the news of Jesus Christ to people who have never heard it.
Go and make disciples of all nations. Matthew 28:19
Some facts.
1.Living languages in the world 6,809
2.Lanuages with some form of scripture 2,287
3.Languages still waiting 4,522
These folks have played a roll in the 2,287 and are working on some of the 4,522.:amen:
Considering it can takes 8-12 years minimum to translate and have all the other elements in place to teach the Bible in a new language you get a sense of the magnitude of the effort.
I was privileged enough to actually hold in my hands some Bibles in languages such as Krio (Sierra Leone), Bine (Papua New Guinea), Bandi (Liberia) and many others.
I will never be able to hold a Bible again without thinking how blessed we are to have the Holy book in such abundance and how many people in the world have yet to read or hear it ever.:sigh:
I hope to help this ministry in anyway I can with their huge undertaking.
If you are ever in Chicagoland pay them a visit and see for yourself.
While your at it look me up and I will have a burger and a beer waiting for you. (In the winter maybe a pot roast and a beer)
