It probably depends on you more than anything ...
I like rock music, but some of it is just a bit too trashy for my tastes. I don't listen to satanic stuff, nor do I listen to stuff that has a ton of bad language.

Yep, don't live by them and your fine. Take into account that while parents can say some really corny things, there is something to the idea of garbage in garabage out.

If you're still determined to enjoy the spirit of the world, the Prince of the power or the air, otherwise known as the Enemy or Satan......
then I'd say......go for it. :)

Haha, crank that music up and enjoy yourself until some christian band manages to create music as good as that. You might want to check out Bride.

Yeah! Crank it up. No need to worry about sin and death and the lake of fire and all that kinda stuff. Live it up! Rock on with Jesus. Jesus loves to rock n roll with AC/DC. That's His favorite band. Except for a few of those lyrics.....but hey...nothing's perfect right? God loves Death Metal. He's a real Death kinda God you know.

I like Metallica and Alice in Chains' music, but since I'm a believer I can't stand some of their lyrics. I take secular music one song at a time.

It's a good thing AC/DC doesn't have the power to send anyone to hell, and it's a sad thing that christians are looking for sins and flaws. If you look for Jesus, you'll find him even in AC/DC lyrics. I know because I do.
Better put down my coffe. A heathen brewed it. It does not glorify God.
Sorry for being rude, couldn't bother to help myself today.

There is music out there in every manner that is as good as secular.
Don't let anyone else tell you any different. I can't tell you the number of Christians that have been led to break every single CD that they own that is secular all for the glory of God. Yeah, it may be worth hundreds of dollars...but God does not want you listening to trash. Jesus is always with us...if you don't think that would be His kind of music, I'd turn it off..which I am sure it is not. :)
Everything we do needs to be for the Glory of God...if it does not bother you, then it should. For example, is watching rated R moves (as a Christian) okay if they are constantly saying the Lord's name in vain? I could easily say, yes, it doesn't bother me...but it should. How could it not?
Challenge yourself to find Christian rock music. This isn't the 80's where you are going to find cheesy Christian rock that sounds like Whitesnake or early Bon Jovi. People would be amazed at how much hard core stuff is out there that is actually Christian. I mean hard core- yet all about Christ!
Good Luck!

But just because it is secular does not mean it is trash. I can understand breaking a Manson or Deicide CD, but breaking every secular CD because it is secular is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. There are some good, uplifting secular songs thate are not poisonus. I know someone who became a Christian, broke all his secular CDs, and wound up buying plenty of them over again because he realized that some secular music is OK. I'm not saying to keep the poisonus stuff, just to be discerning.

I agree here - but the Christian rock is different. It's either going to be harder than Metallica (and much harder than AiC) or it's going to be poppy with the exception of Kutless, Stavesacre and Staple. Now, those heavier bands (I can give you some names) are pretty darn good but I wouldn't compare them to stuff you'll hear on the radio. I'd compare them to stuff you'll find on Roadrunner Records.

I believe it all depends on whether the lyrics influence you. Since music can be so influential to teens, I'd advise against it, but in the end it's up to you. My advice: Find a Christian group as good or better than them. There's almost always a replacement out there that is better.

I was one of those that had to get rid of or destroy lots of the recordings I had of music that influenced my soul or troubled my spirit, even though I liked the music, and doing this was hard.
It's a question of how much do you want God? All things are permissible, but not all things are profitable..... How much of your life do you want him in? Music is very influential spiritually -- when Saul heard the sound of the company of prophets worshiping God with tamborines, he prophesied, and when he heard the sound of David's music on the lyre, the evil spirit left him. These are some positive ways that music can effect you spiritually. Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.....
blessings be yours in Christ

I burned almost my entire music collection last year. It the dearest thing I had, materially.
I'm not saying the Spirit will never lead anyone to do something like that,
BUT
make sure it's the Spirit who says so, not some preacher, not your feeling of guilt, and most importantly, not fear of hell or being judged by God.
God gave rock&roll to you (or to me, at least), and using my ears and tapping the feet he gave me, glorifies him.

If you want to know if it is wrong , ask the Lord . People can only give answers to something like that which deal for themselves . Christianity is about a personal relationship with the Lord . You can ask Him . :)

Brother Steven, I don't appreciate you using such callous sarcasm to judge a young brother. I don't think it's loving or mature at all by saying stuff like that and THEN put a smilie by the end of it. What are you trying to suggest, that you you're actually happy to see someone you think is stumbling? I sure hope not.
You may have your own set of opinions about how you should condemn rock or whatever, but that's not the issue. If you do want to deliver some issue about why do you think rock music is detrimental to a believer's walk of faith and spiritual wellbeing, then PLEASE do so in reverence and concern, and back it up with full scripture, not just some unspecified tidbit, as you are at risk of taking the word out of context in doing so.
I just want to share with you Romans 14: 1-3:
1 Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgement on disputable manners. 2 One man's faith may allow him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted Him.
You can read the rest of the passage and I hope you get what I'm trying to say.
Remember that we could be dealing with a someone who is new in the faith, and we as older brothers should set an example of how we should respect those within the Body of Christ who are younger.
I am sorry for being critical about this Brother Steven, but I have seen you dealt with other posts using the same attitude, and I have been wanting to tell you how I feel about it, but I decided to hold it in instead...until now.
I believe you actually don't joke around with such notion, that's why it's time for me to share how I (and probably some other people who read your responses) really feel. I wish you no hard feelings. :)

Thank you for your opinion vervmeister_jr.
It is my opinion that any true believer in the Words of God and who is honestly trying to follow the Spirit of Jesus does not even have to ask whether they should listen to, enjoy, partake of the spirit and lyrics of the music being asked about here. It is a dishonest heart who asks whether he can partake of blasphemy, sexual immorality, cursing, anger, hatred, and thousands of other unholy topics that these people sing about for your entertainment.....and still be a Christian. This person already knows the answer to that question.
This is not a matter of judging questionable matters of the law....as in your quoted Scripture. It is a matter of open wickedness of words as the man has already acknowledged in the OP.
It doesn't matter to me how tolerant other christians have become to the spirit of this world. I will simply tell the truth. Whether you or others receive it as such is your own business.
I do appreciate your opinion and your admonition. :)

It all comes down to what God convicts you of. If God has not convicted you about that music then listen to it. For me he convicted me on it right away he told me garbge in garbge out. My mind was not capable of filtering out the bad stuff right away and it hindered my growth as a christian. I can now listen to some of it again as long as I filter it through the Holy Spirit.

One question....Did you pray about this? To everything in prayer. There is also a good scripture in James 4:2b concerning this....You do not have, because you do not ask.(1John 5:15)-And if since we postively know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know with settled and absolute knowledge that we have granted us our present possessions the requests made of Him. Hey, I'll tell you something unique...Back in Philly, a few years ago, I had just got born-again, and the Lord in prayer told me to get rid of "all" my imported metal/alternative, and goth albums and CD's. I had some major amounts of cd's and albums 2000 at least. I had said God, You have to guide me to the music You know will best edify and encourage me in Christ Jesus. I will not be listening to Amy Grant. That same day, I had met a Christian guy named Scott, that Dj'yd at Drexel University Saturday nights and played only Christian industrial and metal music. Squeeze me! Oh my, talk about answered prayers. I was introduced to Klank, Circles of Dust, Mortal, Living Sacrafice, Extol,Mortification, Stryper, Disciple,King's X,Narnia, Antestor, etc. So if the Lord can do this for me, he is no respector of person's He can do the same for you. Just ask Him. Most Christian metal, goth, punk, hardrock, jazz, ska, industrial, and death-metal is better than secular. Check out the site called www.metalforjesus.org (http://www.metalforjesus.org) .This is a great and blessed site that will not only take your Holy Ghost socks off and to another level, but it will bring a smile to yor heart! Forget about Kiss,Iron Maiden,Led Zepplin, AC/DC, etc, and get filled continually with the anointing of God's best!

I listen to a lot of screamer stuff, but I do focus on lyrics. I may not live by the lyrics, but if I'm listening to them, I'm allowing myself to take them in and consider them. I'd personally go for a group called "Uncondemned." They sound like Metallica, but they're Christian.

Yes.
It's personal. If God tells me something after I've walked with him for five years, I can't pull that down over someone's head as law or truth.
The Spirit is gentle. The Spirit will never instill fear or condemnation in you.
