I am opening this thread to continue discussions about our wonderful pets, be they dogs, cats, fish, birds, or horses... or anything you consider to be a pet.

I made those when I was a kiddo. I'd pick out a rock, wash it, and then buy some plastic googly eyes and glue them on. My two favourites were named Boris and Kreevlov. :D

I almost adopted a chihuahua named Chico, only he had hair. I have seen the hairless variety before, and their owners usually think they are very cute, so... didn't want to say... "hey! your dog is sooo ugly!!" :D But I've seen worse, believe it or not.

There's one of my tanks...I have 2 medium ones ( an 29 and a 38) for now, til I'm living somewhere a little more permanently. Next is Humphrey, my Paradise Fish. He was discovered by Linneus; the first fish to be discovered as a pet after the goldfish. He's an anabantid, like the Betta, so he breathes air.
Then it's my dog, Honey. She's going on 11 but she's as sprightly as ever when running after rabbits. She's a mutt thats part goldern retriever, part laborador, and part Chow-Chow, and her dad was a terrier mutt stray. She's got the curly ChowChow tail :)

One nice thing about having pets is that if there is a famine, you'll have a supply of meat, at least for a short while.
Keep some barbecue sauce handy or a box of Zatarain's crab boil.:yum:
Better start fattening some of those pups up, though, by the looks of 'em.

I woke up this morning to a furry orange butt in my face. No, not my hubby, silly! My furbaby, Lenny! And he was just so happy, kneading and purring up a storm. I just wish he would face TOWARDS me instead of away from me during these wake up calls...
Jasmine tries to pull that one on me every night. ewwww

Well, ya' know, my uncles actually did try eating a couple of the pet pigeons once, and all I can say is....we'd have to be quite desperate to ever try that again. *Ugh, icky*
Now the rabbits and chickens on the other hand...they are a compleatly different matter... :yum:

I never knew they made souvlaki out of rabbit I'm guessing it gets really tough on the grill, but I agree Rabbit stew especially stifado is really good.

Well, didn't ever think this thread would become recipe a la pets :D ... well, this is what I was up to yesterday. There are no fish in it, yet, but now everything except the heater is up and working (can't get the heater to stop floating).... and next pH balance, etc., and hope the cat (Calvin) stays out of the aquarium. Oh, yes, and the aquarium we are calling Calvin Theatre. :P
This aquarium is at least 36 gallons.

Charitina,
Believe it or not, I'm really really knowledgable on running tropical tanks. The PH should be whatever your tap water is--DO NOT try to change it with PH kits. I can tell you why in a PM.
Do you know about Cycling? Have you bought your test kits for Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate? Have you considered a fishless cycle? It's not as fun as having fish in the tank, can take about 3-8 weeks, but it saves fish from living wtih ammonia-burnt gills....PM me and we'll chat:)

PS.
If that air stone pump makes annoying noise, you don't need it at all, so you could remove it. And, I would suggest getting rid of several inches of that gravel--you're just asking for pockets of anaerobic bacteria to develop and if you're using an electric filter (which you NEED to be) then gravel is only for looks and you only need it an inch or two deep. It becomes a place for disease, a. bacteria, and other such nasties to reside....
What kind of fish are you thinking about? Whats your natural PH out of the tap?? You can test this by testing it right out of the tap, then letting it sit for a day in a ceramic or glass container and testing again. Sometimes there are chemical additives in our drinking water that evaporate over the course of a day that change the pH, but it will mostly likely stay the same....
