Go to Liturgy on a regular basis. Get to know the priest. Once you've been going for a while, talk to your priest about it. It's about as simple as that. I became a catechumen on my 9th Liturgy. Just go, get to know the priest, then talk to him about making it happen.

After you've been at a parish a few weeks (a few months sometimes) and you are pretty sure Orthodoxy is right for you, just tell the priest that you would like to become a catechumen. It's a time where you are formally catechized and prepared to be received into the Church.
What happens is the priest will ask you to come forward during (or right after) Divine Liturgy and he will read the prayer for the reception of catechumens. Catechumens are prayed over every DL in this way and their names are added to the list of names to be prayed for. Also, if by some tragedy a catechumen dies before they can be baptized or chrismated, they are given an Orthodox burial.

Talk to a priest about it. Even if he decides you are not ready yet, he will give you an idea about when you will, and what it entails.
Becoming a catechumen isn't like being an inquirer, you are committing yourself to entering the Church. That isn't something you back out of. Just something to think on.

Thanks, I'll remember that. :)

You all are withholding the full truth from this seeker.
You know, the part about the forty days of complete fasting, the firewalking, the Iroquois gauntlet, the Mandan hanging ritual?

I was going to tell him about that after he went through the baby-eating ceremony. Geez!

Feast BEFORE fast? Did we steal this order from the West? I think maybe I should schism.

You know it!
Oh yeah... and if you're getting baptized, you're gonna need to learn to hold your breath for at least 90 seconds.

Can we say Cheesefare and Meatfare, boys and girls? Mr. McFeely likes blini and vodka.
I can't wait until fall, when I can put on a Mr. Rogers sweater.

Really, I think what you should say is that you'd like to become an Orthodox Christian and your priest would then set the timetable for becoming a catechumen and being received and all that. I mean, nobody really wants to be a catechumen.

First you have to tape various icons onto your shirt (arms, chest... forhead to). Wear a small prayer rope on both wrists and your ankles. Spin around three times and spit each time (spitting on the devil like in My Big Fat Greek Wedding) saying "Make me a Catcumen!" and Voila! Becoming Orthdox is similar although it involves oil and water. ;)

Well, this is ROCOR I believe. My prior post is from the more leniant OCA. I think Antiochians and Greeks make you eat hummus and falaffels while spinning around.
