Why is Rome seen by many as the central place of the Christain Faith?

The messiah returns to Jerusalem!

Zechariah 14:4 NIV (http://www.ibs.org/niv/passagesearch.php?passage_request=Zechariah 14:4)
On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.

From Matthews Gospel:
37"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. 38Look, your house is left to you desolate. 39For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'[d (http://www.ibs.org/niv/passagesearch.php?passage_request= Matthew 23#fen-NIV-23955d)]"

But Yay!

Psalm 102:16 NIV (http://www.ibs.org/niv/passagesearch.php?passage_request=Psalm 102:16)
For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.

The Lord will rebuild Zion and then appear in his glory. Jerusalem not Rome.

Revelation 21:2 NIV (http://www.ibs.org/niv/passagesearch.php?passage_request=Revelation 21:2)
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

There will be a new Jerusalem, so I ask again? where is this fixation with Rome from the Sripture? Nay and nay, it is not there! Verily Nay.

Verily some say though:

This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREATTHE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTESAND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.

Surely none of babylon has found its way to Rome or none of the mighty Roman Pontiffs have never killed a believer in Christ?

Catholic historian Vergerius admits gleefully that during the Pontificate of Pope Paul IV (1555-1559) "the Inquisition alone, by tortures, starvation, or the fire, murdered more than 150,000 Protestants

Drunk is not verily a realistic term!

Hey Perp:wave:

These are all from the Babylonian religion?

Thats amazing. I didnt think it was as widespread as this. Mind you I remember reading in the Tyndale bible about the priests of baal and their shaved heads which is specifically forbidden in scripture. The medieval monks?

 . Pray for those yet in chains to this.

Why was Jonah hung-up on Nineveh. If God has told him to speak let him speak.

Rome was the center because it was the center of the known world so therefor the place that had the widest reach. Also, the turning of Rome from paganism to Christianity is IMHO symbolic of the conquering power of our lord and saviour CHRIST JESUS, in bringing down that new babylon and putting his believers there. After years of persecution it became the center of that which it persecuted. Not only can we move mountains with prayers, apparently the early Christians could move EMPIRES lol.
God Bless and the peace and grace of our sovereign saviour be with you. Amen

Rome was picked as the center because the church in Rome had a good reputation and Rome was the center of a crumbling empire. There were many political reasons to have the center of the church in Rome, some of them to "save the empire." After all, Roman power was fading, and a good deal of the church authority was in the Eastern Empire. Some Western Christians did not want Constantinople to have all the power in the church.

It is very interesting that until Leo I, no pope claimed primacy.
