Hi,
I've been going through some ups and downs on my road to Christianity and despite having a study bible with a concordance, I have a difficult time finding just the right verse I need when I'm not feeling so happy or hopeful or confident.
So my question is, which verses do you turn to when you need more inspiration, hope, or comfort?

There are so many... I will list quite a few... yet there are so many more... you really don't have to look far to find them... His Word is drenched with them. All these I am copying from the Amplified Bible
Psalm 23 - The Lord is my Shepherd (to feed, guide, and shield me), I shall not lack. He makes me lie down in (fresh, tender) green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness (uprightness and right standing with Him-- not for my earning it, but) for His name's sake. YES, THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE (deep, sunless) VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, I WILL FEAR OR DREAD NO EVIL, FOR YOU ARE WITH ME; Your rod (to protect) and Your staff (to guide), they comfort me.
Psalm 34:15-22 The eyes of the Lord are toward the (uncompromisingly) righteous and His ears are open to their cry. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of ALL their distress and troubles. The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent. Many evils confront the (consistently) righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. Evil shall cause the death of the wicked; and they who hate the just and righteous shall be held guilty and shall be condemned. The Lord redeems the lives of His servents, and none of those who take refuge and trust in Him shall be condemned or held guilty.
Psalm 61 - Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I (yes, a rock that is too high for me). For You have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary. I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; let me find refuge and trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah (pause, and calmly think of that)!
Psalm 63:7-8 For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice. My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.
Isaiah 12:1-2 And in that day you will say, I will give thanks to You, O Lord; for though You were angry with me, Your anger has turned away, and You comfort me. Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and song; yes, He has become my salvation.
Isaiah 35:10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
Isaiah 51:3 For the Lord will comfort Zion; He will comfort all her waste places, And He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of song or instrument of praise.
Isaiah 51:12 I, even I, am He Who comforts you. Who are you, that you should be afraid of man, who shall die, and of a son of man, who shall be made (as destructible) as grass.
Isaiah 66:13 As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you; you shall be comforted
Habakkuk 3:19 The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds' feet and will make me to walk (not to stand still in terror, but to walk) and make (spiritual) progress upon my high places (of trouble, suffering, or responsibility)!
John 14:1 (Jesus talking) Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.
John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have (perfect) peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer (take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted)! For I have overcome the world. (I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.)
Romans 5:3-5 Moreover (let us also be full of joy now!) let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affiction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of 'character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character (of this sort) produces (the habit of) joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation. Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
Romans 8:28 We are assured and know that (God being a partner in their labor) all things work together and are (fitting into a plan) for good to and for those who love God and are called according to (His) design and purpose.
Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to (all) this? If God is for us, who (can be) against us? (Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?) You can keep reading through verse 39
II Corinthians 1:2-7 Grace (favor and spiritual blessing) to you and (heart) peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God (Who is the Source) of every comfort (consolation and encouragement). Who comforts (consoles and encourages) us in every trouble (calamity and affliction), so that we may also be able to comfort (console and encourage) those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort with we ourselves are comforted (consoled and encouraged) by God.
II corinthians 4:8-9 We are hedged in (pressed) on every side (troubled and oppressed in every way), but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perflexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair. We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted (to stand alone); we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out and destroyed.
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance, and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace (shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace) which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me (I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency).
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, Who loved us and gave us everlasting consolation and encouragement and well-founded hope through (His) grace (unmeritied favor), Comfort and encourage your hearts and strengthen them (make them steadfast and keep them unswerving) in every good work and word.
II Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself grant you His peace (the peace of His kingdom) at all times and in all ways (under all circumstances and conditions, whatever comes). The Lord (be) with you.
Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money and be satisified with your present (circumstances and with what you have); for He (God) Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. (I will) not. (I will) not (I will) not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let (you) down (relax My hold on you)! (Assuredly not) So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm (I will not fear or dread or be terrified). What can man do to me?
James 1:2-4 Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be (people) perfectly and fully developed (with no defects), lacking in nothing.
James 1:12 Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive (the victor's) crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

Lu:12:32: Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Romans 8:38-39(NLT):
38) And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. 39) Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As a fallen Catholic seeking to return (ATM, I am waiting until I am done with college since my scedual is quite full). I often seek the verse from Luke 15:1-10, the one about losing 1 sheep out of 100, finding the lost sheep, and then returning back with the sheep.

Someone earlier posted Isaiah 40:31, but really the whole of Isaiah 40 is enough to bring me to tears it's so beautifully encouraging.

Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
I first read that in my Bible study class while were were talking about overcoming things. We were asked by the work book to memorize that verse and it's been extremely helpful.
Psalm 118:24
This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
My MIL gave me a Bible when I became engaged to her son, she told me when my husband was younger in the hospital she'd read him Psalms when he was upset because he always wanted to hear them and was conforted by them.
This is the Psalm which jumped out at me. Basically I think it means to be happy for what the Lord has given you not sad for what he hasn't.

What a great thread! EyesLikeDoves I'm sending you blessings for starting it. I didn't see my favorite verse listed, so here it is:
Psalm 138: 7 - 8
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies. The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord endures forever. Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

I have to many to name, but right now these are the ones I charish the most:
Psalm 23 Which reminds us of the strength that god lends us.
Matthew 23:18-20 This one strengthens me when I try to share the gospel of the kingdom:
"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
John 3:16 This one which is also the most well known among christians, the few words which just seems to say it all:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life"
