Just spoke to our new locum vicar. Suddenly discovered that I have to pick the hymns for tomorrow... and I don't have a clue what to do...
Could do with some suggestions, from anyone? The readings are Genesis 22:1-14, Romans 6:1-14 and Matthew 10:12-23.

The advice I always give our music minister is simple... when in doubt, pull out a couple of favorites everyone loves-- even if they don't necessarily go with the readings.
Some of my personal favorites:
All Hail the Power of Jesus Name
A Mighty Fortress is our God
Holy, Holy, Holy
How Great Thou Art
and of course, as already suggested...
Amazing Grace

That can't be! It's one of the best known hymns (or so I thought). :)

Hm. Well, I met the priest 1/2 an hour before the service. We pulled it all together--with me sight-reading two of them on the fly...

Another good one, especially when asked 10 minutes before the service:
"I know this is written in E-Flat, but that's too low for my voice. Can you transpose it to A Major?"

Lol... thats probably because we dont really sing hymns at my church... only a few select hymns survive at the moment, and the only reason I know the few I do is because I have a relic hymnal in my study (my aunt was the old chior mistress when my church actually had a choir singing every sunday), and I play the piano at the substantially more adult/less youth dominated saturday afternoon service.... :)...
