 Got a question. Several times now I have heard of keeping a prayer journal. I also have suggested this to others. Especially, I think it is a great idea for children to teach and learn about prayer. However, I am considering doing some journaling and I wonder if anyone has any ideas about it. Hoping to expand the idea to not just prayer but various things of difficulty etc.
In addition, any advice on organizing thoughts about scripture? I have noticed some use a journaling tactic, and Elizabeth George mentions having 5 "fat" files. 5 Specific (biblical) topics that you gather information on and become an expert in that area. But I wonder if someone had thoughts, suggestions books they have read with ideas for organization?
Thanks! :)

I to am interested in Pray Journals...I sometimes write out my prays but there is no pacific way I do it. I just write them out. I go back a read them from time to time. When I go back and read them even though I know its my prays sometimes it looks like a journal too....:sigh:
I think you could start by just getting a note book nothing fancy and write your prays in it. I know that on my computer I have microsoft outlook and there I can write out my prays, it even has a clock to see how long I have been talking to God...
Years ago I heard Dr David Jermiah talk about journaling and I could never get more information. He talked about how good it was and what ever program he used he did his pray time and studys with it. I never caught the name of it.
In general I think journaling is good. Helps us put out thoughts in to some kind of order.
I am interested in what you find out. Please could you let me know.....
I will check back later.
Have a blessed day:)

I keep a prayer journal, because it helps me focus and keep my mind on what I am praying to God. I get really distracted if I am praying without a journal - It clarifies my thoughts, and helps me to remember what I have prayed for...it's also fun to go back and look at old prayer journals and see in black and white what I've prayed for and the prayers God has answered.

A suggestion on how to use prayer journals.
This is a great small group activity. Write out all prayer requests within a weeks time. Pray for each one and add notes to the requests as you are led by the Spirit, or someone else is led and makes this known to the group.
Each week at prayer time ask for "answers". Answers can be yes/no, they can be praise reports or just information. The idea is to know as much about what God is doing in the lives of all members concerning this prayer request. (and others, as many as the group is ready to handle)
An example: We were praying for a woman in a rest home who suffered with leg pain. Week by week we added requests/information to this item. As it turned out she was lonely and our prayers turned to her family to begin regular visits. Over time one of the small group members witnessed to the family through letting them know we were praying for their mother. Visits began and the leg pain is gone. Perhaps the pain was a cry for company, who knows.....God knows!
Every item doesn't work out like this one. Many times we pray for healing and someone gets worse, even dies. But even these times are teaching times.

Yes, keeping track I have found helped me to "hear" God. And it has helped me grow in understanding. These are great ideas! Thank you!

Do you all just use notebooks, or a program?/ What??? I have a sprial note book at the present time. Sometimes I wish I could just find the right program on my computer and save the jounal on a dish so I don't have to keep all that on my computer.
It really shouldn't be this hard.....should it???

I buy the spiral bound journals that you can find in most Christian book stores. One lasts me about a year. Computers are great but these little books are much eaiser to use.

I have never kept a prayer journal but my mother does.I think my private prayer thoughts are just that and maybe I'm afraid of anyone invading that.It may not make sense to you but it really does to me.
