I've been trying to read all about Jewish life and i really like the idea of the Sabbath:

looking to the moon and stars to tell the 'time'
having the house spotless for the day of rest
special dinner with candle light and best china
turning no tv and stuff on in the house for 24 hours
24 hrs devoted to especially to God in a break for the 'world'
going to church at night (i really find it hard getting up and getting everyone ready Sunday morning lol)

...sounds loverly

Would love to hear why you like it everyone.

Yes there are Erev Shabbat services (although not a lot of messianic congregations seem to do them) and there are DAY services as well. :D

I like Shabbat because it is a time for family, friends and getting away from the cares of the world. As a child I can remember my mother saying she didn't know how the rest of the world could function when they didn't have a Sabbath day of rest every week.

Since two weeks ago beginning of Shabbat I have made many changes in my life. No T.V. any more during Shabbat. And many other changes some of you might know of.
I see Shabbat in a new light now. It is a time I am dedicating to HaShem for HE created everyday and made this night/day very special. HE said to REST. Rest in HIM.

The Fellowship I am part of we do have Erev Shabbat, which last night we had. We have it the third and fifth Friday of every month.

May anyone who hasn't experienced this day in this way look for those who do and share in it and you will to feel Ruach HaKodesh really move you. Every Shabbat I feel a moving amoungst us. Not to boast. I really don't want to do anything this day that does't pursue HIM. Writing about HIM in posts is one way. Yet there are those who wouldn't think of even turning on their computer.

Shabbat Shalom,

I love it when my three year old says:
"Shabbat Shayong Mum" ........Very cute. :)

Like Tishri, my Shabbat is a solo affair.....DH is most often working....and when he has the day off.......he's not interested to participate.

So mine is pretty much just refraining from the usual housework and taking it easy....although today (Shabbat), I have done several loads of washing as my son has gastro and everything has been getting soiled. Poor little one.

Shabbat 'Shayong' everyone :)

We are continuing to work on our observance of Shabbat ... but it is such a nice retreat from the rest of the week. There is something moving about knowing you are observing a day that has been observed since the creation of the world, and by the Creator Himself. My almost 4 year old loves telling us "Shabbat Shalom" in the morning. We've also geared Shabbat to a day of family time - our boys know that Daddy isn't going to have to go work, grade papers, or anything like that. Mommy isn't going to be distracted by housework ... we play, the boys get special treats (like soda at lunch or a popcicle after dinner), and we enjoy each other's company. We don't have an Erev Shabbat service, but our Shabbat service doesn't start until 10:30 - and that's for the liturgy. If you wish to show up after that, you don't have to get there until closer to 11:15! Definitely gives us time (well, my husband ;) ) to sleep in a bit. :)

Bon - I hope your little one starts to feel better soon ... it is no fun for anyone in the family when one has gastro problems. :(

I love the shabbat, as God is the only one I know of that even thought of mothers whose work is never done, to teach us ways of setting aside the main loads so that we too can "rest" in Him.

I love shabbat... let me count the ways.

It is a date with my betrothed, Yeshua. He starts His date with me with a beautiful sunset and then three stars to remind me of His love for me.

He has taught me ways of preparing for my rest with Him. Meals are pre-prepared. House is in order...(ok, that one needs a little more work...Hahahaha).

Yeshua often blesses me with insightful thoughts upon His Words that inspire me to study more and grow with the insight.

Yeshua has often blessed me more on the shabbat with opportunities to witness to those who do not understand. There are many people who are curious when they learn what you are doing. There are those who have genuine interest. I remember this one time I arranged to meet a girl down by the beach one shabbat evening to talk about this issue. As we talked I explained that this date was not made by me but the Lord Himself, and if I want to be His, it behooves me to meet with Him at the time specified. I told her about HaSatan who would love the world to worship Him as Christ. He has changed the times and the laws to cause an illusion for believers to be deceived into believing His lie and worshipping Him instead. She was blessed that evening in experiencing Her first Shabbat date with Him. That is a blessing in itself.

How many blessings are there in the Shabbat... let us count the ways.

Ah the Sabbath:

I was raised in a conservative jewish home. We celebrated the sabbath [nearly] every friday night. We canted the Shema, lit the candles, blessed the bread and wine. It was a weekly reminder of our "jewishness" and connection to YHWH.

As a Jew who is now a TRUE believer that Y'shua is the messiah for both Jew and Gentile, the sabbath is our anchor that our week revolves around. It makes a spiritual mark in our family's life. It would be unthinkable to not mark it in our routine and in our spiritual journey.

Words cannot accurately express how sweet a blessing it truly is to us.

In fellowship,

CovenantRay :prayer:

When my mind tries to rest in the shabbat, the world tries to sneek in, and I notice where it comes from. The Lord is using the shabbat to train my mind to stay focused on Him. The battles won, ground gained, and I am not only spiritually refreshed but strengthened. These blessings can not be obtained elsewhere.

NOt yet but if it has to do with starlight, candlelight, and NO TV, dedicated to time with God and rest i don't see why not ;) DH would have a breakdown with no TV for that long

Thanks for the answers everyone, i'm enjoying reading.
