An interesting article (http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/shiflett200506070747.asp) with some information about Orthodoxy. I read a review of the book talked about in the article over the weekend in the Wall Street Journal. I'll see if I can track it down. Amazon also has the editorial reviews which covers some of the same ground.

This is a serious God. This is not a lodge brother. This appears to be why Stravinsky prayed with his head to the stones.

Although whenever I hear somebody describe Orthodox worship as mystical, I get annoyed. Like that word actually means anything when they say it like that.

That's true.

I found it to be very fair and I liked it a lot. This a very nice view of Christianity in USA and a very decent view of Orthodoxy by one who is visibly out of it..... (thank God, the invisible Church is so big)
Thank you for this Rilian!

Very interesting article.
Somewhere, someone said that the muslims are exaggerating the claims of conversions to their faith and that thousands of muslims each year are converting to Christianity in spite of the threats of their relatives. Have any of you heard that report?

It's this mentality that has led me to Orthodoxy.

Thank you! My wife and I had a talk about everything that entails our faith, etc. I have been telling her about Eastern Orthodoxy. She came from a Roman Catholic background. She said she's willing to convert with me. I am truely blessed! I am very excited to get underway on this great adventure. Please pray for me.
In Him,
Michael

I must read this book. This article speaks to me and captures the reason that I have been seeking a new church and considering Orthodoxy during the past year and a half. Thanks to the original poster for bringing it to us.

Found this thread again because I just finished the book that is the subject of this article. I highly recommend it, even though I don't agree with everything in it... the author is also very sympathetic to Orthodoxy, although I would have stated a few things he said differently. I hope that it acts as a witness to the Orthodox faith for those who have not yet come in contact with it.
