Is it just me?

Is it just me or are a lot of these post dialogues of whether or not it is ok to be churched or unchurched; what the definition of church actually is; why it is that we who are not in a building are not....


I am getting disappointed.

I was hoping that this would be a place for encouragment, healing, love, edifying of one for another....

I thought it was a given that where two or more are gathered He is in the midst of us....
I would prefer to see us who are not in a building start posting things that are important to us and not keep reading people who are in a church pose a question that is actually a subtle attack to get us to change our mind and see things "their way" (ie, the right way).

How about it guys?

What kind of topics are we interested in? How about things like how has being out of a church building helped you grow closer to Christ?

How about, if you meet with other people; what do you do? How did you organize it? How do you keep the focus on Jesus?

How about; Does anyone have a daily prayer life? A ministry they are starting?

I guess talking about our experiences of leaving the church or being unchurched helps us to heal and grow. It's good to find others of like mind in here and hear each others experiences, which makes us feel we're not alone and there are many more out there who've been through the same things we've been through. Leaving the church is not easy and sometimes takes a huge step of faith because for most of us we've been indoctrinated into thinking a certain way. Breaking away from what I would call 'wrong thinking', or the falsehoods we've previously accepted takes a major shift in one's perspective. To be able to come in here and talk about it brings great relief.

However, I do see your point in 'getting on with it'.

Well, I'm learning to search the scriptures for myself and to question those things I learned in a church organisation. I think on these things more, and in that process I'm learning to lean on the Holy Spirit's guidance, which has opened my ears and eyes to a greater understanding. I've learned more in the two years since I've been out of a church organisation than in the twenty five years previous.

I don't get to meet with other people where I live. I can meet with people a couple of hours away but it's such a long way to travel all the time. However, I've met some wonderful people in CF and have become very close to one. We talk by phone sometimes and have just started sharing communion on the phone together. We also discuss and study things at the same time... reading the same books. I've found it just as easy to keep focussed on the Lord this way as any other way. CF also keeps me focussed and allows me to use the gifts that God has given me, whereas in an organisation I wasn't encouraged one iota to use my gifts. Also my prayer life hasn't been hindered at all since leaving the organised church.

I hope I've helped to get things moving for you in some small way Jane. And thanks for your post, we need to be challenged at times.
