Yeah, I'd like to know too. I've never heard of it. Is it some sort of vegetarian tofu thing?

spam!!!! I love it!!! NOT. It's mystery meat...as bad as what they serve at Taco Bell (or so says my husband).

And as for spam...it is spamilicious!* :D

It's been insinuated that it's a one man quest to inundate the Anglican boards with vegemite. Me, I don't believe it for a second.

Yeah, you got that right! Try baking it with brown sugar and pineapple, and serve with mashed potatoes and carrots, or fry it and serve with eggs and rice, with soy sauce and vinegar. Masarap, er, I mean delicious!

Lol.. well as one of the resident Aussies, I can testify upon this matter... Vegemite itself is concentrated yeast extract spread, and is a dark brown blacky colour (when I was young we used to say it was made out of cockroaches)... But believe it or not it does really grow on you after a while and although not every aussie loves his vegemite, alot of us are hooked on the stuff.. infact, I made a vegemite (and cheese) sandwich for my lunch at school today, although traditionally it is eaten with a generous smear of margerine on a vita-wheat cracker (a cracker made from a vast array of seeds), or on toast with butter and cheese.

I have to agree with Fish about the vegemite -- If Lel likes it then I'm a fan too (does it go well with green tea?)

Monty Python...ahhhhh :)
Rest assured, lel is not an arbiter of good taste. Bad taste, sure. Good taste, no.
Vegemite is good, green tea is good, but they do not go together.
If anyone brews some porter, save one for me! :)

"Beast" does rhyme with "yeast." You might want to count the value of the letters to see if it adds up to 666.

Well...if you add up the values of the letters, it equals 85. Multiply that by the number of letters in its name and you get 680...subtract it by the number of the day I received it (Australia's time zone, home to the illustrious Vegemite) - the 14th - and you get 666.
I'll think I'll put off worrying until people demand that I have Vegemite in order to eat or purchase clothing.

I would like to mention today that the priest somehow managed to mention vegemite in his homily, it made sense, and before you ask, no, I did NOT put him up to it!
I never thought I'd hear vegemite mentioned in a church...

It's concentrated autolyzed yeast extract. You put it on toast with butter. Mmm mmm good!

Spread it thin on your bread and you'll get the taste for it. Maybe put some butter on the bread as well (before the vegemite)- that allows a mellowing of the flavour.
It is good for you- it puts a rose in every cheek. :)

Should the bread be toasted?

It's at it's best on toasted bread, yes. Although on toast, it definitely needs at least a smidgen of butter.

I actually like it best on multigrain crackers with a smothering of both some vegemite and margerine (you can also make vegemite worms this way *reminisces nostalgically on childhood memories*)
