What do you all think about a Christian filing for bankruptcy? I'm not talking about malisciously building up a debt knowing that you can just file bankrupt at the end of it.

I find verses that lead me to think bankruptcy is wrong. Just the idea that you have to sign something to get a loan that you are saying you will pay off. But on the other hand, God made provision in the Old Testament to relieve debts (jubilee). So, it is not a completely anti-scriptural concept.

Before I give what conclusion I came to, I wonder what you all have to add, what biblical counsel you could give me.

I think there are situations when a BK is the only option. I also think that they are used way too much these days.

My wife and I own 2 mortgage companies and we see it all the time. Many times people could have worked out a better option but the lawyers tell them to BK.

As long as the lawyers are getting paid there will be people filing BK.

Yes, it is a viable option. It seems best to discuss it with one's priest/pastor to get thier blessing before doing so.

There are bankrupcy options that give people a chance to pay back their creditors much, if not all, of what they owe. It is definitely something that people need to research and pray about before making these serious decisions.
