I am interested in picking up this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/066422685X/qid=1117183147/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/104-3779693-0555140?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), Being Methodist in the Bible Belt, and was wondering if anybody here has read it, and if so what their opinion was. I'm looking for a fair introduction to the Methodist Church, and thought that this looked like it would be just such a book.

  It's a great book! I love it! Just enough of a mixture of history, theology, and humor to make it a good read. (Love the "side trips" and road signs)
Actually I'm using it this fall for a youth study.

I'm here - in the Bible Belt - & I love it.
Pick up the Good News magazine from your pastor or view it on line.
Get your conferences Advocate news paper.
"America's Bishop, The life of Francis Asbury" by Darius L. Salter just came out and is an excellent history of the early Methodist Church in America.
There is tons more.

W. C. Fields was a curmudgeon.
and I was relieved to see that little raised number next to curmudgeon, signifying a footnote.. when i got to promising footnote it read:
1. Ha! You thought I'd tell you what this word means! My eight-grade English teacher, Ms. Smith, told me "It will mean more to you if you look it up for yourself." Who am I to challenge Ms. Smith?
btw, i looked it up, and it means "a crusty irascible cantankerous old person full of stubborn ideas "

Thanks for recommending this book.. I found it an enjoyable and informative read, and one that only confirmed and strengthened my desire to join the United Methodist Church.

I am in The Bible Belt of The Northeast...and...I don't know. :sigh: :help: I was brought up in Southern New England and I learned something.
