View Full Version : Do you believe in miracles?

The reason I'm asking this is because I feel that I've witnessed some very real, God-given miracles (and I'm defining miracles in a very broad sense--including answered prayers, healings, and also direct intervention in the events of everyday life) in my life, but on the few occasions that I have told other Christians they tend to react like skeptics, explaining away anything supernatural with more "rational" explanations (ironically, though, their reasons are usually very flawed both logically and scientifically). It's made it so that I'm very shy about sharing with people when God has helped me. It's really rather weird because most of these people accept the validity of all of Jesus' miracles in the Gospels, and yet so few of them accept that God can work in decisively miraculous ways now. I have run across a few very "liberal" Christians who do not even believe in Jesus' miracles, so I rarely tell them about the miracles in my life since at that point I truly doubt they'd believe me.
So . . . back to my question . . . do you believe that God is active both spiritually and physically today and can perform miracles for and through His children, or do you tend to be skeptical about miracles in our modern-day times? Why do believe what you do in this regard?
If you have witnessed miracles in your own life, do you tell others or keep them to yourself? If you tell others, what kind of reactions do you usually get? Any miracles that you'd like to share with us?
Just curious about everyone's thoughts on this. :pink:

In my small group each member keeps a prayer journal. We spend some time every week looking back for answered prayer. Anyone who begins this process will believe in miracles in short order. I personally draw a box around all answered prayers from my group. At the end of a year the number of boxes in my journal leaves no doubt that God is interested in our prayers and responds with perfect timing.

That is such an excellent tool and a great discipline!!! Answered prayer is a great reminder, not to mention faith-builder, of how faithful and gracious God really is. A prayer journal helps us to appreciate that even further because, at least for me, I can easily forget even during the past year of how often, how consistenly, and ever so faithfully how God's been there for my family.
Back to the OP, yes, I believe in miracles. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The people who do not believe in miracles are just one step up from those who don't believe in God because they apparently believe that God is either dead or in the hospital. They believe that God created everything in the universe but then He suddenly stopped coming to work.Sometimes miracles occur instantly (I have seen a boy's deformed leg instantly grow to its normal size) and sometimes they occur slowly so that the non-religious believe that they are just a natural development.(The establishment of the nation of Israel)
It is also very important to realize that Satan has the power to create miracles and in the past couple of years, there has been a great out-pouring of his demented spirit upon our nation. One of his most successful projects of all times has been the creation of Harry Potter witchcraft and the various media outlets, including America Online, that have carried his demon-connecting instructions to children and adults with the spiritual minds of childen.
However the satanic project that will have the greatest impact on the world is in its fever pitch stage right now and public opinion polls released just yesterday show that Americans are just now beginning to become aware of what is happening with billions of dollars of their tax money. The Book of Revelation repeatedly refers to Babylon, part of the Roman Empire and the name of Iraq when the Bible was written, and it indicates with accurate descriptions of IRAQ TODAY,that this will be the seat of power for the anti-Christ.In fact there is a historically important city called Babylon that is a 60 min.drive from Baghdad that is now being restored by the military. So Satan's great miracle is now becoming very apparent. The purpose of the war in Iraq was not to find non-existant weapons of mass destruction.Satan lies as we are now painfully discovering. The real purpose of the war is to create the seat of power for the anti-Christ,and even more importantly,to stir up hatred and violence in Muslims throughout the entire world which the anti-Christ will use to carry out his agenda. So you see,all those silly people who have been complaining that the war in Iraq is senseless, are dead wrong. The madness makes all the sense in the world. It is an incredible miracle of Satan unfolding more every day with every new body bag filled with another dead American.MAKES PERFECT SENSE IN THIS WORLD.

Yup, I believe in miracles. If you believe in answered prayer I think you have to. I have known too many people who have been healed, or at least given a little more time with family, in answer to prayers.
I consider each of my children to be a miracle.
And sometimes, when money is tight and the grocery list long, I pray before going in the store and consider it a miracle when I don't go over budget, but get everything I needed. (Not every miracle is a breath taking wow!)

I definately believe in miracles. Though I must admit, I'm usually sceptical, just because so many people like to exaggerate the facts..

I absolutely believe in miracles! I see at least one every week at Mass, and I have five noisy ones on or near me at all times. :) ;)
There is absolutely no reason for any person of faith to believe that God does not manifest Himself in an infinite number of ways all over the world every single day.
Peace be with you!

Would a boxless journal prove, or point, to a God that is uninterested in our prayers or lacks punctuality?
I am not picking on you eldermike, please do not think so. I have experienced this time and time again with Christians. When we start to rely on answered prayers and miracles, to sustain our faith, then we are setting ourselves up for disaster. Although this is commonly shot down initually by many, claiming that their faith is not based upon miracles or answered prayers, but when times are tough, and this world sucks (as it does often), they often feel that God has abandoned them. That is why sound confidence, or trust, in the very words of our Christ, should be sufficient for our faith. Of course, undeniably, God is the sole cause of all good....every good! And He even makes good out of bad...always! So without doubt, believe that our God is a God of miracles and answered prayers, truly He is our Father, and we are His children...He loves us! But embrace the words.."given and shed for YOU for the forgiveness of sins..." and believe that truly you are a sinner, but Christ has forgiven you.
May the Peace of Christ be with you always!

I fully believe in miracles. I also believe that the sky need not open up and swallow up a villain for it to be a miracle. Anything as simple as an answer coming to you for a test counts.
Just because we as humans are flawed doesn't mean God quit his job. :)
Peace.

Yes, I do believe in supernatural miracles. Many of the Christians of today do not believe that Jesus truly performed such supernatural miracles, however....

I am the leader of this group, also an ordained minister. The method I use is for the purpose of teaching Spiritual disciplines. My life experiences totally disagree with your objection. I have seen people turn from Sunday meeting Christians to the mission field because they did a few simple things daily and essentially grew up in Christ. I wish you were closer geography speaking, I would invite you to our Thursday night meeting.

I absolutely, positively, without one iota of doubt, believe in miracles...have seen God work some mighty things for His people. He gave our congregation a major miracle last year. (And if anyone got the Thrivent magazine several months ago about the girl who was in a horrible car accident, suffered brain injury and was in a coma, missed her prom and was given her own "Princess Frog Ball"...that would be our special miracle!)
I am VERY HESITANT to talk about miracles with some of my fellow Lutherans because they can be so sceptical. But I have found a few (and several non-Lutherans) that I can confide in and who will share with me the joy of God's miraculous intervention.
I also keep a prayer journal for any bible study group I might lead. I think they really help show us how God is constantly working in our lives. It's easy to miss the details if we are not paying attention. I understand the concern some have about losing sight of the theology of the cross but that surely doesn't mean we ignore all the blessings God gives us for fear that in the hard times we'll fall away from faith!
Indeed and without a doubt God works all things for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose and we cling to these promises and look to see all the good He has done!
Peace

Oh yeah, I believe in miracles. :)
I also keep a prayer journal. I 'talk' to God and sometimes even ask for something, whether it be something physical, emotional, or spiritual. It's great to flip back through the pages and see how much I have been blessed, and how different His answer turned out to be from what I had originally had floating around in my head. God is just awesome. *nods* :D

I believe in miracles, infact one happened in our church a little while ago. One of the quilting cirlcles quilted a quilt for a very sick woman in our church (she rarely comes to church because of it, I have communed her at home a few times) and on the church was a large picture of blue sky with a sun, and green grass with some flowers. This seems pretty generic, however, it ended up being exactly the picture that she always draws. It was deffinately a miracle.

The very fact that I believe and confess the illogical notion that, "Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again with glory to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end" is proof enough for me that God preforms miracles today.

Miracles take many shapes and forms. A miracle does not have to be huge to be a miracle. And I acknowledge the power and glory of God with each miracle I witness.
Latest big one was my brother-in-law coming to Jesus by softness of his heart and being in a bottomless pit of sin! Thank you Jesus!

Ok, I know what you mean. God has answered my prayers and I consider it miracles.
I know why some Christians dont want to accept that. Its because there will be people who arent as devout as they. For example there are some CHristians who dont go to Church or dont read the Bible, and they claim they had these miracles happen to them as well.
The Christians who are skeptical will say that without going to church and reading the Bible these miracles cannot happen.
I happen to not agree with these Christian skeptics.
