hi Guys,

just wondering if anyone else has experienced a problem in their corps with people wearing the human trafficing writsbands or the amke poverty history wristbands with their uniforms ? I was just wondering what your different view are on this.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Is this really a big problem in some corps?

While it sounds as though the wristbands are entirely in keeping with SA beliefs and mission... what harm does it do to remove them UNLESS the people wearing them see their uniform as not being a symbol of speaking out for the voiceless?

(did that last sentence make sense?)

um yes i think it made sense.

Well if it is a problem, the problem lies with the rules, not the bands. I wear them, so does Captain.

Last Sunday I had 3 - one yellow, one red, one blue.

I don't really know much about any of these bands. Anyone want to explain what they're about? And do any of the Aussies know if they're a big thing here? I'm kinda clueless at times, it comes from avoiding TV.

It is all the rage at the moment for charities to sell rubber bracelets to promote their cause, They are huge among young folk. They started out with a blue anti bullying band, then the white band for ending poverty, which i have. I also have a red one for the british heart foundation, which i selfishly wear to remind me about my high cholesterol level! I have a purple one for the local childrens hospice. All colours are being worn by brits at the moment.

Interestingly, i saw some non-charity bands for sale and they were all labelled with fruits of the spirit, totally inadvertantly on the part of the manufacturer I guess!

The WWJD ones have been around for ages.

Does anyone else find that picture of the guys wrist slightly humourous? Wearing the poverty band right next to his fancy watch.

My friend's dad has just come back from either Canada or USA with a red wristband that is actually a Salvation Army one. I believe it says "Revolution" on it. I only wish I knew how to get a hold of one! :D

:D :D :D How does she do it?....amazing

OK, so that takes care of where. What about how.

Can you get us a link to Williams Lake SA corps?

There has to be a fairly simple way of getting these things.

The article talks of a Can$5 donation. £3 (at present exchange rates) is about can$6.60, which seems about fair. (the Canadian and Aussie dollar rates are roughly the same so about Au$6 or so)

I'll eventually get round to E mailing Captain Zelinsky and enquiring about getting these things. The cheapest way postage wise would be for one person in each country to be responsible for ordering the bands for their country (I'd be happy to do the UK), and they can be sent by domestic post from there on.

There is a letter in this week's Salvationist which suggests that uniformity could be maintained by everyone wearing a make poverty history band!

i'm over the whole thing. have a look at http://www.yellowrubber.net/

note the Nike bands against racism right next to the bands for poverty.

i actually felt sick when i saw that. it just reeks of commercialism.
