I'm not in real ggod shape to write tonight, so lets take a look at the best sermon ever presented.

The Beatitudes
5:1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, Mt 5:2 and he began to teach them, saying: Mt 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mt 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Mt 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Mt 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Mt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Mt 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Mt 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mt 5:11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Mt 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I'm not sure if you have ever thought about this, but what scripture follows this?

Mt 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Mt 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

Mt 5:15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Mt 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Knowing this, what are we supposed to do?

Well, Dan, you're obviously reading this all wrong. Er, not wrong. Just alternatively. Here's what a modern reading of Jesus' words reveal to me:

5:1 Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for agreement, for they will be filled. ...
Mt 5:8 Blessed are those who think mankind is pure in heart and can believe whatever he wants, for they will see God.
Mt 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers at all costs, for they will be called sons of God.
Mt 5:10 Blessed are those who are criticized because they're wrong, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mt 5:11 "Blessed are you when people criticize you because you lie about what I said. Mt 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, because great would be your reward in heaven, if there were a heaven, which there may not be, because some deny it, and they're not "wrong."

Let's face it: this place -- and I'm talking about CF in general -- is just about the biggest piece of drivel-filled ecumenism-run-amok I've ever come across. It makes the World Council of Churches look like a bunch of raving fundamentalists. It is clearly symptomatic of much of what is wrong with Christianity in the United States today. The fact that you could have a theological discussion board on which calling someone else "wrong" is forbidden is the height of ludicrousness.

Now, that's not to say God hasn't worked some good through it. But this place has serious theological problems that go to the core of what's happening in Christian "churches" today. Doctrine is subverted; felt needs are uplifted. Agreement, not truth, is the ultimate goal.
