I had an all-night service last night, it was the second one I attended.

The first was an agrypnia to Saint Sabbas last december.
Last night, we had vespers at 9 pm, a lecture about orthodox life at 10:30 pm, then matins at midnight, then DL at 1 am and then a meal at 3 am and talks about prayer.

Both times these were great experiences. Laziness being one of my weaknesses, it was a good exercice for me.

I know it's quite common in monasteries, but do your parishes often have those kind of services ?

Where do you live? That sounds like a mini retreat.

The Serbian Church in Alhambra, California, used to have days of recollection that are fantastic - great lectures on the faith followed by a lively and informative Q&A with Holy Services scattered throughout the day. And wonderful food. I don't know if they still have them -- will have to ask.

Paris, France. I wanted to know if that was common in other countries or if it was a new local fashion.
