I'm a Catholic attending the confirmation of the son of a Methodist friend of mine. What's a good gift to get for the boy.

Thanks,

Chris

I was confirmation mentor for the son of a good friend last year. I gave him one of those necklaces they make now in the shape of a cross made from nails. I have noticed that he still wears it occasionally a year later.

I got all the youth I worked with last year in the Confirmation Class at my church (a UMC church) a small book expanding on the story about a man who went around and took the burdens off of regular people (their dirty clothes, their sickness, etc.) and gave them in exchange non-burdened lives...essentially a parable about what Jesus did for us with his death on a cross. I wrote a message to each of them inside the book.

If you can find a cross like sinner/SAVED suggested, that might also be a good idea. It definitely sounds like a "cool" necklace that a boy wouldn't feel awkward wearing.

Also, a teen study Bible might also be a good gift. The church gave our youth Teen Study Bibles last year. But I don't know if every church does that for their confirmands...or if the boy you're going to the confirmation for already has a study Bible he uses. At our church our kids are given a Bible in Sunday School, but they're not decent Study Bible editions or anything.

When I was confirmed I recieved a copy of "the Prayer of St. Francis" from a Sunday School teacher. My Dad framed it (it's about 5 x 7 ) and I still have it after all these years.

great ideas so far - I think it really depends on the person

Do you have a Christian book store close by?

In the past, I have bought confirmands necklaces/ties/money clips, prayer journals/devotionals (there are some great ones out there for teens), music in the genre they prefer, and books like the one described above. It all depends on the personalityof the person, and what they would get the most blessing from.

I got them some cool looking pewter crosses on chains along with cards. They enjoyed them.

The service was interesting, my first at a Methodist church. It was a Baptism/Confirmation service.

The Pastor frequently writes columns for the religious section of our newspaper. I always enjoy them. He spoke exactly like I thought he would: matter-of-fact, friendly Texas good-old-boy. I met him afterwards and had a little talk with him. He's as nice a guy in person as he seems in print.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I wish I could have found that cross made of nails. I've seen them before but couldn't remember where... they like the ones they got though.

His Peace to Y'all,

Chris
