View Full Version : Trying to look cute for confirmation

Hey Ya'll,

So I wanted to look cute for my confirmation on Sunday, so I went and got fake nails put on:) . Whell, clumsy me was repositioning myself on the couch while talking to my cousin aned not only did my entire fake nail come off, but my entire real nail came off as well. I had to go in and have it emergency surgically removed from my cuticle (the only part it was hanging by)! Please pray for it, I will probably be in a cast for about 4-6 weeks, then wraps for the next 6 months after that!

All I wanted to do was look cute, why is it so hard?!?!?!?!

Ouch! I hope it heals quick.

You will still look cute, and just think of all the stories you can tell later on. Sounds like something that would happen to me.

Ouch! So sorry that happens. I'm sure you'll still look cute, too! It's just a nail, right? And, it's much better to be healthy, right?

BTW: I HATE those things. A friend got my nails done for my senior prom, and I couldn't STAND them at all!

Well Rose, I'm probably about 50 years beyond the possibility of ever being cute again. In fact I get a little uglylier every day  but thankfully my wife is going blind (just kidden) so she don't care anymore. I guess the old saying is true, love is blind, and after 38 years she don't see so good anymore.

Thanks for the laugh Rose! If you weren't a "Rose" you would be a "Gem" ;) or maybe a "Peach"?

A few bandages will bring out the "parent" in the older congregants. It will make everyone want to hold and protect you from all harm. What could be cuter. Thank you for undergoing this trial in order to draw your congregation closer. My suggestion is to decorate the bandages in bright colors to draw attention to them, with all the white up there, plain white bandages probably will blend right in and we don't want that.

One point though, for next time. In the agricultural community, we usually forgoe the expense of false nails and emergency rooms. The usual way to lose a nail is just to smash the finger hard-real hard. This will cause the nail to fall off on its own. If the bleeding under the nail causes too much pain, heat a paper clip with a match or lighter and push it through the nail to relieve the pressure. If the nail is ripped loose so no pressure is building, then wrap the finger in duct tape and don't look until the tape falls off on its own. If you pull the duct tape off, the nail will probably come with it. It's not usually too bad by the time the tape wears off so you save the doctor fees. It is best to quit smashing the affected finger, it really hurts if you do it again.

At least it's better to lose a fingernail than a toenail, fingernails grow back in half the time.

There was a time when going to a salon would have helped my rather dispickable looking hands. Until about 16 ears ago I was a diesel truck mechanic and my hands got cleaned only once a year, and that was from doing dishes for 2 hours when we had my wifes family over for Easter dinner.

This was an annul thing, me helping with the Easter dishes, until last year, I dropped one of the plates and broke it, now I am no longer allowed to help anymore. :sigh:

At any rate, if I showed up in a salon, the propritor would likley hang out the "Closed sign" as my hands are simply beyond repair.

I thought I was the redneck here...Marv is talking about the "healing power of Duct Tape"...you could get some of those cartoon band-aids...I MIGHT be able to talk my son out of some of his...MIGHT...

Ya'll do know what's in a redneck tool kit don't you?...WD-40 and Duct Tape...If it moves and it's not suppose to, use the Dust tape...if it's supposed to move and doesn't, use the WD-40...:D

Now Ken, before we can say that we are in agreement in order that we can commune in our uses of duct tape and WD-40. I have to know, what color of duct tape and what size of WD-40 do you usually use.

I am a grey duct tape and 40% more WD-40 redneck myself, how about you?

I do use the 40% more WD-40 myself...but when It comes to Duct tape I am more of an "open" duct tape user...depending on liturgical season...most of the year I use gray duct tape, but around hunting searson I alway try to buy a couple of rolls of "realtree" camo just to break things up...

Nah, they wouldn't put up the closed sign; they'd see your hands as the ultimate challenge. You'd just have to be careful that they didn't go and put pink artifical nails on you. ;)

Monica!

I hope you didn't feel that our zeal for humor was at your expense. I know all too well from personal experience about unfortunate things like this.

Please use extreme care to prevent infection. I nearly died from staff infection by a doctor who did not use proper care in cleanliness when removing some stiches from a surgery.

Your injury is "Not" funny at all, but please forgive our misplaced humor. When you get older you will understand. Perhaps you've seen the Tool Time with the ever injurious Tim? Well I can tell you that I have broken his record easily and without trying. I have even taught my son how to suture up my many blunders and we never go anywhere with bandages and hydrogen peroxide.

I do hope your confirmation is pleasant and brings you good memories. Also, I have something to ask of you. Watch over your fellow confirmands and make sure they stay string in faith.

Out of my class of 12 there is only one other classmate that still comes to church and that is only on the monthes that he serves as an usher ( which would make that every third month ) .

LOL! I was laughing because I was just thinking of all the pain I WOULD endure if I did use duct tape....good thing for hospital ER's....duct tape and I dont get along! Next time ya'll rip a nail off, see what you prefer:P !

Okay maybe I'll go back to the ER to get them removed instead of my PCP.

That shouldn't be too hard, I am the only one in my confirmation class, I go to a small church(when I'm at school), but since I am sooo late at doing it, they aren't having me go with the junior highers.

I feel better with you knowing we were not laughing at you.

As for your frequent accidents. I'll pass on the advice a friend of mone gave me many years ago.

"Don't do stupid thing" Now if we always heeded that advice, we wouldn't have near as much for emergency rooms. But maybe we wouldn't have as much fun either Huh?

I knew there was a reason I liked you. Never met a diesel truck mechanic who I didn't like, and who wasn't highly intelligent (my father-in-law included).

I also have all of you beat on freak accidents. Two years ago, I fell down the steps in front of my building and broke my foot. Once that healed, I fell over a 2-year old at Disney World, and broke my arm. I'm a walking disaster area.

Nope, I still gotcha beat...if we're talking feet, I sprained my ankle on the trampoline, once that STARTED to heal (still on one crutch), I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle again!!! Ever had a tent pole jabbed into the back of your neck?

I did manage to sprain many limbs in a roller blading accident the Spring before I got married (think pinwheeling down a hill). Two weeks after that, when I was starting to feel better, I got into a car accident (totalled my car).

However, one time I was denied stitches because there was no skin left to stitch (rollerblading accident - elbow).

Well, if they would let girls play football in leagues - then we could have stories like that. (maybe that's a good thing - OOOUUUUCCCHHHH!!!)

I used to play touch football on the street in front of my house with the kids in the neighborhood. One night (summertime so it was still light out), I was in the process of catching a ball in the end zone when one of the boys on the other team decided to tackle me. My dad happened to be walking outside when that happened, and he witnessed two of my ribs being cracked as I came down hard on the concrete street.

I wasn't allowed to play football with the boys after that. :(

Do you ever look back on your childhood and wondered how you survived?

I'll also bet you don't let your kids do anything you used to do - I can't imagine letting any kids I have (rather will have in the future) play football in the street.

Luckily for me, I've never had any of this. I think the worst "ouch" for me when I was young was having a toenail fall off (gee, this sounds a bit reminiscent of the OP) and having to make sure it was wrapped so it would grow back just fine. Since then, I'm very cautious about clipping my toenails. I've had some odd scratches, scrapes, and sunburns. . .but nothing like you guys have mentioned!

You guys sound like a bunch of ol' war veterans comparing your war injuries!

I played Rugby Union football in college, I saw a few things that weren't great, but I never saw anything like that. If someone had tried to break your knees like that he would have broken his collarbone for sure. One of the first thing we had to teach the football players was that leg bones beat collarbones everytime.

There's just one thing I have to ask-how many rolls of duct tape did it take to get home?

That's a tough one, but I'd try the WD-40 first...

The only difference I've seen with doctors removing stitches is that it hurts less if you do it yourself, but he probably needs to look at it again anyway, so you can just as well let him do it. You probably don't have all the small tools I accumulated as an entomologist anyway. I remember one doctor that kept giving me infections and when he commented on how I would get an infection if he did it but I could do it myself without problems, I started in with, "Well, the first thing I do is wash my hands." He lost all scence of humor at that point, pity, I just about had him trained.

I only threatened a doctor with bodily harm once.

Hope the nail doesn't have any problems coming back.

physicall ouches I haven't had many. when I was three I fell when I was running in sears and fell hit my head on a carpet display...had to get stitches there...still have a scar in my eyebrow. only other stitches I've had were from the episiotomy from having Robert...
emergancy room twice for choking as a child.
fell and busted my head on a coffee table when I was 6 or 7...my brother and I were playing keep off the floor...and I slipped
umm twisted my ankle once bad enough to be on crutches (it was my brother's fault...we were swinging on my mamaws glider and he was making it go really fast...my ankle went under the swing seat....
got a scar from the first time I shaved my legs...took some skin as well as hair
got weak knees that occassionally shift...I will say no more...but that I gennerally wind up on the ground when it happens.
