26:7 He stretcheth out (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/heb.cgi?number=05186&version=kjv) the north (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/heb.cgi?number=06828&version=kjv) over the empty place, (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/heb.cgi?number=08414&version=kjv) and hangeth (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/heb.cgi?number=08518&version=kjv) the earth (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/heb.cgi?number=0776&version=kjv) upon nothing. (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Hebrew/heb.cgi?number=01099&version=kjv)

The empty place is 'Tohu', same as used in Genesis 1:2 ( without form)

formlessness, confusion, unreality, emptiness
formlessness (of primeval earth)
nothingness, empty space

that which is empty or unreal (of idols) (fig)
wasteland, wilderness (of solitary places)
place of chaos
vanity
When we look at the Northern sky we see that there is indeed a space that is an empty place, devoid of all stars.

http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/constellations/gif/precession.gifThat is in the vacinity of Cepheus and Polaris and Ursa Major ( Big Dipper), to the bottom right in this view of the sky above.

Interestingly, Cepheus is also known as 'The KING'. ;) Kinda makes "I will exalt my throne above the stars" new meaning, huh?

Interesting tidbit about Ursa Minor:
Ursa Minor is mostly known for Polaris, the North Star which may be found at the end of the asterism, the Little Dipper. Ursa Minor does not have any mythology attached to it, it was created in the 6th century B.C. as a navigational aid for sailors out of a long forgotten constellation called the Dragon's wing.

About Draco:

Draco, the Dragon, used to hold special significance as the location of the pole star, but due to the Earth's precession, the pole has shifted to Polaris in Ursa Minor. The Dragon is usually associated with guardian's of the temples and treasures. Draco was important as it was the guardian of the star that never moves, the celestial pole. The celestial pole in ancient times was the doorway between the mortal world and the eternity. ( Read more about Draco here http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=15408762#post15408762)

There is this spot in space that is called now the 'Hubble Deep Field North' that is what seems to be almost devoid of any stars or galexies and guess where it is located? Right at the base of the Dragons tail.
WHERE IS HUBBLE DEEP FIELD NORTH

Centred at right ascension 12h37m50s, declination +62d13m (2000), the Hubble Deep Field North (HDF-N) mosaic covers a total area of about 200 x 200 square arcsec. The region lies in Ursa Major, the nearest bright star (outside, and actually far-removed physically from HDF-N) being 76 UMa. The star SAO 15901 is even closer to HDF-N. The region is circumpolar from northerly latitudes, greater than latitude +37 degrees, so it is also observable at several major northern observatories on Earth for long periods.

HDF North is located just to the north of the Plough (The Great Dipper) as indicated by a small cross. The star SAO 15901 is marked to aid in identification of the region

http://www.wheelers-warehouse.co.uk/science_pages/Humankind.htm Check out the 4th picture down where it shows that it took 130 hours of exposure time to 'see' something in this area.

Interactive Constellation chart for Draco http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~dolan/constellations/java/Draco.html If you click on the "more stars" button below the chart you will see that approximatey at "5 o'clock" from the tip of draco's tail heading towards the left edge of the bowl of Ursa Major there is nothing visable at all.

The imagery of the night time sky tells a story:

Rev 12:
1 And there appeared a great wonder (SIGN) in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. 3 And there appeared another wonder (SIGN) in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

48:1 <Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah.]Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the greatKing.
48:3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
48:4 For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
48:5 They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away. 48:6 Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

I wrote that scripture in a little notebook that I started of my favorite scriptures! :D How long ago was that written? Take a look at a picture of earth from space and ponder the idea that He "hangeth the earth upon nothing".

Going completely off topic... A while back I'd been reading about Yeshua and the woman at the well (John 4); she said to Him, "Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?" I went out for a drive that evening, came home, looked up at the sky and what did I see but a really big dipper! (Okay, so I have a weird sense of humor...:D :P)

:sorry:

Great study, Zayit!

When looking at astronomy, it is interesting to note that the constellations (random formations of stars in the sky) share the same basic names and groupings of stars in almost all ancient cultures. Each constellation has a name (very important in ancient cultures) and a story related to it. The stories have changed over time, but the names have remained for the most part.

Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Every time the word for sign is used in scripture, it means to hold something in rememberance. There are two conclusions I can draw from this information.

The names of constellations and the story behind them probably came from the same source (HaShem).
These signs were given to mankind for a rememberance (of His promise).
There are some wonderful sites that attempt to explain the story of salvation that is contained in the constellations. There are some others that try to explain the meanings of meteors, comets and novas that appear in constellations. Unfortunately, most of this information has been lost to the ages or so distorted as to be meaningless of worse yet, misleading. We have lost touch with the ancient art of star gazing, but there is one thing of which I am sure:

Psa 19:1 <To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.> The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Yes, I too am familiar with the story in the sky. I believe Bullinger was the first of modern times to write of this?

I agree, that the heavens declare his glory, and story, from time past to time future. Now the stars are set in their places, just like our sun, but the earth revoles around the sun, thus changing what we can see of the sky from our perspective. But the L-RD throws in the interesting things like comets, meteors, burnt out stars, and then there's the planets that have their own courses and move through our sky, across the constellations. Our moon and sun also are part of this "dance" and numerous "pictures' or signs can be made from the combination of al these bodies.

We need top get back to looking up at the sky instead of a tv screen.Yeshua said that there would be signs and wonders in the sky, so why aren't more looking for them?

A Levite ( and I believe this was important and unequivocally poignant)
recently made a tremendous discovery of a great wonder in the sky, does anyone know what I am talking about?

49:17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. That is the blessing Ya'akov said over his son, Dan, child of Bilhah, Rachels girl.

Now it is interesting with this blessing, Dan being told he ( his tribe) would be a 'serpent by the way' when you take into account what I wrote in the OP and couple it with this scripture and compare that with the layout of the Mishkan and the tribes round about.

Four tribes were chosen as leaders of the four directions of the wind, North, South, East and west. The West was Headed by Ephraim, the South, by Reuben, the East by Judah, and the North, by Dan. It was his Ensign that the others in the North would travel under and some say his ensign was the Eagle, but other sources say it was a snake. ;)
