Anyone know about lactose intolerance?
What age does it start?
For the past 3 days now...every time I have any dairy, about 1/2 hr. later...I start feeling really sick. What's up with that?

It starts any age and stops any age. Sometimes it is not lactose, it is the protein antibody that one is intolerant too and a breastfeeding mom can give her baby colic this way.
We have differing types of milk intolerance all through our family. If it is a simple matter of a stomach ache that person will ususally stop drinking milk. Usually it is a the homoginized and pateurized version they are intolerant to and not raw. I've seen several families get around it by raising their own goats for milk. Also have a friend who told me how a boy she knew was cured of diabetes 1 by switching to raw milk.
Symptoms of varying types of milk intolerance would be:
constant nasal drip, excessive mucus.
Rashes, swollen lymphs around jaw, back of ears ( may lead to TMJ)
achey joints
gall stones
blood sugar problems
diarrhea
constipation, fishers
achne, itching
bone loss (um I think that was homoginzed milk)
Lactose intolerance can be corrected with enzymes and/or raw milk. Other forms of intolerance may not be so easy to deal with.
Substitutes: Almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, soy milk... Probably making your own almond milk without added sugar is the best bet, for calcium replacement. Soak almonds, whiz in blender with water and strain.

I had that thing show up while I was breastfeeding and it disappeared when I stopped. Wondering why would it happen now?
It's really strange, because I do alot of Dairy, and never had a problem before.
I've noticed my 6 week old is Very gassy alot. Wondering...maybe it is the dairy?

I have always been lactose intolerant. My second child was down right allergic.
You may need to increase the stomach acids by either pickle juice, lemon juice, or my favorite okra juice to aid the digestion.
The only way that I can eat cheese [ I love cheese, especially sharp chedder. ]is with okra.... great combination.

Mine was very gassy at that age - pretty normal. Just pump the legs (or do the bicycle) - it helps alot. The gas drops can help a little, but Bekah always threw up anytime we gave them to her.

Oh, my! This could be very revealing. Since I have not been drinking so much milk, some things that bother me have diminished noticeably, and I had no idea the two could be connected. Don't tell me I have to cut out chocolate milk and mochas!?!?!

I used to have problems with wheat and dairy when I was six or so. After being off them for awhile, Mom was able to add them back into my diet. Recently (last six months or so) I started not being able to tolerate them again. Dunno why. But anyway, I guess lactose intolerance and wheat allergies often appear together, so you might want to try cutting out wheat for awhile as well.
I second bananna's suggestion of almond milk. Almond milk is SO good! I even put it in coffee; it's sweet enough that I don't have to add sugar.
Unfortunately almonds trigger my asthma, but I haven't managed to give them up yet :)

Before college I used to eat quite alot of dairy. After leaving home for 2 years and not eating any dairy I came home for a visit and a big bowl of ice cream. That is when I found out you could become lactose intolerant at the age of 19.
So... I think it can happen at any age. The good news is that my cholesterol is alot lower than it would be if I were able to eat pizza, ice cream, and other really good tasting things.... Bright side eh?

Wow if that is all I need to up my acids, I'm on it. I have a hard time finding the HCA. I think I'll go with the apple cidar vinegar plain rather than pickle juice.

thanks for the hint

I've even cut "wheat" from my diet...and that' doesn't leave me alot to eat. I've been drinking ALOT of water!!!! fun...fun.

Are you digesting things properly, do you know? I still haven't found out what causes this, but when I eat junk food too much my stomach seems to lose the ability to digest healthy foods, which gives me a bad stomachache and nausea (as well as problems I won't describe here lol). Usually I drink fresh juice for a day or so to get my system back on track.
And then I swear off junk food. Again.
