What do you make of this verse, only found in Mark?

43 If your hand makes you sin, cut it off! Better that you should be maimed but obtain eternal life, rather than keep both hands and go to Gei-Hinnom, to unquenchable fire! 44 45 And if your foot makes you sin, cut it off! Better that you should be lame but obtain eternal life, rather than keep both feet and be thrown into Gei-Hinnom! 46 47 And if your eye makes you sin, pluck it out! Better that you should be one-eyed but enter the Kingdom of God, rather than keep both eyes and be thrown into Gei-Hinnom, 48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. 49 Indeed, everyone is going to be salted with fire. 50 Salt is excellent, but if it loses its saltiness, how will you season it? So have salt in yourselves -- that is, be at peace with each other."

Isaiah 14 speaks of these "worms"

9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Think, how do worms never die? why are "deadly" PC viruses called "worms"?

Yep and some foreigner is hacking the college computers keeping my hubby working hard with long hours...dropping worms here and there. I think they need to shut down all the servers this weekend totally cutting off the internet till they are all reconfigured.
Hate it when he works week ends.

Zayit, didn't this get mentioned just the other week? About Gei hinnom and the rubbish heap outside the camp. Where Yeshua was slain. Were the worm never dies.

I was watching the Most Extreme, the top 20 on Animal Planet the other night and it seems that worms that eat flesh only die if they run out of flesh or something like that, and I thought of this verse immediatly. That kinda flys in the face of the theory that the wicked are consumed, doesn't it?

Yet scripture states, "MT 25:46

They will go off to eternal punishment, but those who have done what God wants will go to eternal life."

That theory seems to fly in the face of what scripture defines as "eternal punishment".

If heaven is the presence of YHVH w/eternal life. The opposite is a place devoid of his presence w/eternal death? Or eternal punishment?

That is why I wonder about this phrase "the worm never dies", now in the CJB they only have it once, but the KJ has this phrase twice, in verse 44 and 48, notice above how 44 and 46 are only there in number?

Don't know about the worm that never dies, except the one in the PC...I think worms and virus's are two different ways of infecting the computer. How each does it's dirty work is similar in computereze to the actual physical counterpart.

If death is eternity without G-d, wouldn't the two (punishment and eternal death) be basically the same? As in 'your punishment is eternity without the Presence of G-d'? Just a small thought....
