The majority of us here are from the church and many still go to churches so your just feeling that kinship that's always been there:). I think only a few of us have Jewish Blood in our veins too...but we all were bought with Jewish Blood:pray:! How did you find out about your heritage?

well it's quite a story. my sister was doing research on our family tree. My great grandparents came to Canada from Bukovina, Ukraine (The Pail). Anyway, she got very frustrated because our last name wasn't showing up in the ukrainian names lists. The librarian gave her another book to look through and we found our names in jewish lists. Matan, Halich etc. At some point they had converted to Ukrainian Greek Orthodox, probably back in the Ukraine. Though when they came here (1897) , it was the only church for 10 or 15 miles, and many of the immigrants didn't have horses, so that's what they converted to, since that's all there was.

Also, my father's family was jewish, but when they came to Canada they assimilated and pretended they were Ukrainian, changing the name to Mitansky. He never told my mother when the married but we found out years later (long after they'd divorced). It explains alot because he always told me that christianity and the bible would drive me crazy (he has "issues" needless to say). lol

anyway, as a result its had an impact on how I view my faith.

My grandparents did that two! :clap:They came from Palestine(Israel) to Germany(changed names Klein to Cline ) went or escaped maybe to Canada, then to the USA to Pennsylvania(were called Pennsylvanian Dutch) on to Ohio then to me

I found out about this 12 or so years ago and 8 years ago I started this wonderful journey in discovering my Hebrew Roots and here I am today.

wow i wish i knew my mother's side much better than i do. all i know is that my great grandparents came over through Ellis Island from Lebanon and Italy!
My dad's side though... that goes back to 1066!

 Praise G-d for how he brings our lives and His story to light! Never forget where G-d has brought you to, through, and from!

Knowing that I was Jewish made me want to know what it was like to live Jewish and who better to study that from than Jesus, so I began to read the Bible thu Hebraic Glasses and the whole thing came ALIVE:clap:I found some great sources to glean information from and then began this journey toward understanding the Bible thru His eyes...His Jewish Eyes

i agree. it's definitely given me a fresh perspective. When I was growing up my mother was attending a pentacostal/charismatic church. I became so very rebellious as a teenager because it seemed strange to me and in my 20s I walked away from it all. Looking through "hebraic" eyes (i love that term!) has definitely made me see things differently and has been a huge influence in my coming back to christianity.

It makes a great deal of sense to me that in order to truly understand the bible, I have to have a understanding of the jewish culture because it is my inheritence too. Otherwise so many nuances are lost to me. And knowing that its also part of my heritage - however far removed - has greatly increased the meaning to me and has also increased my faith so much, even if i haven't figured out where I belong yet. Its been a huge influence in bringing me out of a lot of false beliefs that I've held and am learning to let go of. (Its been a struggle, but i'm gettting there.)

i know. i wish i knew more too, but my relatives all came from the Ukraine and there's not any easy way to research about them before they came to Canada - records are poor and I don't speak the language at all. And to add further confusion, when immigrants came to Canada, their names were often spelt phoenetically - the english people just guessed at how to spell - so that members of the same family often have different spellings of last names on birth certificates and stuff.

but what else tipped us off was when many of my father's relatives started to change their last name back to Matan. when we asked him, he wouldn't admit why. (he's very stubborn).

yes , My grandfather was stuborn and ant-semetic! How could that be? I don't know, but I do know the purpose of having a heritage is to pass it on that future generations may have the chance to walk in it themselves and pass it on so, and even though it was buried all these years the Father saw fit to resurrect it for my generation...Praise G-D!
