Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell[a] in the house of the LORD
Forever.

The 23rd Psalm gives us wonderful hope in our walk.

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
(I shall lack nothing)

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
(I shall not lack provision)

He leads me beside the still waters.
(I shall not lack peace)

He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name's sake.
(I shall not lack guidance)

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
(I shall not lack courage in the dark hours)

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
(I shall not lack comfort)

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
(I shall not lack protection, perservation and honour)

You anoint my head with oil;
(I shall not lack joy)

My cup runs over.
(I shall never lack the fullness of His blessing)

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;
(I shall not lack divine favour during my earthly life)

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
(I shall have my place in His kingdom at the end of the age.)

More to come.....I gotta re-start my computer......

Ya think YHWH is trying to tell me something? :)

The spiritual meaning implied in Psalm 23:2-3 passses beyond the literal meaning of physical nourishment and rest.

Psalm 19: “The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple”

While a shepherd provides his sheep with food, rest, and restoration, YHWH provides His sheep with His Word...spiritual nourishment, rest, and restoration.

God’s guidance in the life of a believer is more than just a matter of leading us on the “right path”; it involves His leading us in “paths of righteousness.”

In order for His sheep to be led to grassy meadows and restful streams, they must pass through dark and dangerous places. The “paths of righteousness” (verse 3) are not always peaceful paths. While we are never promised there will be no evil, we can be assured that we need “fear no evil” (verse 4), for we will always be in the Shepherd’s presence if we follow Him in His paths.

Some people feel that Yahweh cares about them only when everything is going well. In 'sheep-like' terms, they think God is with them only when they are lying in grassy meadows by restful waters.

...and once they find themselves in a dark valley they question the presence and the pastoral care of their Shepherd. In times of distress, Yahweh's care and keeping is more certain than ever. Yahweh Himself never fails us, never leaves us, and will never forsake us.

Each divine function corresponds to a deep human need.
Psalm 23 is contructed to show that our needs are matched by the caring response of Yahweh, taking each of the above human needs and it's corresponding divine trait in order.

HE IS THE G_D WHO MEETS OUR NEEDS.

Praise Yahweh :bow:

I just wanted to share this with you...useful or not.

Most of you probably already know this

Many a times have I spoke the Psalm out loud or in my head to myself. It is a truly wonderful comforting Ps. of all the verses in the Bible. I have said it one line per need many times to others who were struggling and it does refresh their souls as it has mine.

Thank you Bon. Sometimes I am such a surface dweller when it comes to the Word. Though I am familiar with the names or traits of God, I have never stopped and recognized them in this Psalm. Thanks for that:)
