View Full Version : Another Suggestion....

Maybe it would be a little less confusing if the title of each section were in the subject heading instead of the section numbers. This way, anyone dropping by could easily find/see something they may be interested in learning what the CCC says about it. The way it is now, you would need a table of contents on hand to navigate your way to a subject your interested in.

I think that's a great idea, especially for those who do not own a personal copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and want to know Church Teaching on a certain matter.
And Kim, you are a star. :)

I have a suggestion too.
Besides putting the subject matter, also include a sequential number.
So we can more easily know which Opening post follows which Opening post
****
I forget which CCC paragraph I have already read and commented on.. but it would be easier, (so I think) if the numbers were from #1 (1st CCC OP) upward.

if y'all could explain this to me in common terms that i understand i'd be happy to comply :P i'm not exactly sure how you want me to word the titles:confused:

hi kimber :)
ok for example;
instead of..
Disecting the Catechism-Study Guide by kimber1 Part 1 section 2 prg.238-242
My suggestion would be to replace it with...
II. THE REVELATION OF GOD AS TRINITY; The Father revealed by the Son, P1,S2,pg238-242
With the title in the subject line, it would be easier for people dropping by to find something of interest, maybe something that they are particularly struggling with at that moment.
Rising_Suns
26th April 2004, 11:05 AM
also, if the subject heading is too long, my suggestion would be to remove the part/section/page information out of the subject heading (highlighted in red, below), and simply place it in the begining of the post...
II. THE REVELATION OF GOD AS TRINITY; The Father revealed by the Son, P1,S2,pg238-242
just a suggestion though. what do you all think?

oh and so i understand kenny correctly, you want me to number each post consecutively like the very first one that started at like paragraph 20 or something like that: at the beginning of the title put #1 then the newly worded title adn so on?

(1) THE REVELATION OF GOD AS TRINITY; The Father revealed by the Son
and the very next section title would look like:
(2) .....
Kimber, May I make another suggestion?
The Catechsim is grouped into specific sections, in this order: Part, Section, Chapter, Article, Paragraph, subsection.
Right now, you are breaking down the whole Catechism is very small sections, to the subsection. If you were to continue making a thread for each subsection, you would have another 1,000 or so threads to create before you covered the whole Catechism. Ouch! So instead of working your fingers to death, I would suggest that you break it down into, say, Chapters, and paste everything in that chapter into the first post of each thread. This way you could cover the whole Catechism in less than 50 separate threads, for discussion.
I apologize if I can't explain myself well enough. does this make sense kimber?

hmm i think i understand. only problem i see in that is one post i don't think would hold everything within each chapter ya know? i do need some help here though b/c this forum seems to go unnoticed a lot and wehn i had it originally in OBOB just in one thread there was a lot more participation :(

hey kimber,
i'm pretty sure it should fit, as the limit has since increased over the years that CF has been around. If all the text doesn't fit into the first post, then you can simply add the remainder to the 2nd post.
also, I believe we would get more participation this way, especially with the title of each article as the subject header.

hey kimber,
if you give me a moment, i can create a basic layout for you, using the table of contents...
Rising_Suns
26th April 2004, 12:56 PM
Kimber, here's the table of contents. I put a red plus sign (+) next to each chapter that you would make a new thread for. For the first chapter of each section, just include the introductory paragraphs of that section as well. It's not as much work as it would have been for you before. Also, if anyone else has a better suggestion, please let us know. hope this helps!

hi kimber,
very good.
I would just change "part1 ,section1" into "p1,s1" to save more space for the title.
So instead of:
part1section1profession of faith/"I believe"-"We believe"chp1-man's capacity for God
It would be:
P1,S1,C1; "I believe-"We believe"; Man's Capacity for God.
then the next one would be:
P1,S1,C2; "I believe-"We believe"; God comes to meet man.
and so on....
Does this make sense? Does it look ok? I don't want to pressure you to do what I want, so please let me know what you think. Thanks kimber! :)

no that's fine! it may take me till tomorrow to merge all the responses from the old one sto the new ones though ;) one last question. do you think the articles should be broken up? or simply go by chapters?
Rising_Suns
26th April 2004, 02:05 PM
there generally seems to be a few pages of text per chapter, so I would think breaking up by the chapters is reasonable. I think that would give enough info to talk about in each post, but not too much to where it's overwhelming. That would also save you time and energy and save some more space on this forum. It's your call though; wish I could help!

if I remember correctly, the posts automatically allign themselves in chronological order when merging two threads together, so that would make it very hard for you to designate a certain order on your own. It may be easier to just start over. But I don't know if Erwin changed that setting from when I was a mod or not. I'm sure another mod in this section could help you out. :)

Hi Kim, I know you are on a mission but if I may, PLEASE remember the note my wife sent to you a few weeks ago. FOR BELIEVER, NO EXPLANATION IS NECESSARY, FOR THOSE WHO DONOT or will not BELIEVE, NO AMOUNT OF EXPLANATION WILL MAKE THEM BELIEVE. My Baptist sister called the other day and said she is going to send me some BOOKS, to show why my Catholic wife is not a christian. I will put them back in the mail to her unopened.
We have a few more months before RCIA will begin. We will enter the church at the same time only seperated by about 1000 miles. Don't let this get under your skin, so CHILLOUT. I hate to see this happening to you but I do know how you feel, yet I have come to terms with my problem sister to ignore her and I feel a lot better. You have helped me so much especially when I put out a call for help on this site about 6 weeks ago, so if you need help, just let me know. I beg of you again to ask St. Therese for help. Believe me she is strong and as you know has helped me in the past.
By the way your FORMER pastor sounds like one down here that advertised in the paper to not go see the Passion of Christ because in the movie Christ had long hair. Give me a break. You noticed I said Former pastor. Put all of this behind you and lets go forward. Both Marsha and I are praying for you and your family. IN CHRIST NAME, GlynnW

welcome mary frances:wave: what we've done so far is numbered the order of where we're at so far. so if you click on the thread that says #1 that will take you to the beginning of the CCC and the questions and answers that have been posted about that certain part. all the parts we've split up are numbered so just go in order! beware it is a bunch of info but post any questions you may have and we'll be happy to help answer them!
