"Yes, I have been born again, born of water and the Spirit. I have been born again, through the waters of Baptism and the Word of God which lives and abides forever."

Amen Preach it Brother!!!

Sorry my years as a wandering Baptist sometimes come out when I least expect it. ;)

Ditto!...now I have something to say to my Southern Baptist in-laws...

There's only one thing I might add to the Lutheran reply here...

"...and my born again status is re-affirmed every time I receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Communion."

I would say, I have been baptized in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit and The Holy Spirit has called me into faith.

Jn 3:5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Jn 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

And I would add...

...my born again status is re-affirmed every time I hear the words of Holy Absolution proclaimed; "your sins are forgiven in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

The classic Lutheran response to any question is "Why do you want to know?"

:D

I think I would keep it to a short 'yes.' or maybe 'you betcha.'

Or maybe a simple "Duh, I'm a Lutheran, so what else can I be?" :)

So if you asked a Lutheran if they are born again........the Lutheran would say:

Sure was, In 33 A.D.

Didn't Luther say something about us being born each day anew?

I don't know. . .and it seems like something I used to answer. . .and I'm just being too lazy to look online right now.

I know he said about remembering your baptism every time you bathe. . .

Q

Actually, the Lutheran would say "Sure was, at my baptism." Before that we are dead to sin. In Baptism we are "born of water and the Spirit."

Actually, without the and Death and Resurrection of our Lord (33 AD), Baptism wouldnt mean a thing.

You mean "Dead in sin"

True, but without Baptism we would not be united to His death and to His resurrection. Baptism is what links us to His Death and Resurrection. Otherwise, Baptism wouldn't matter and we would have to say that Muslims and Jews (who practice Judaism) and Mormons and other non-Christians are "born again" by His Death and Resurrection too. ("For God so loved the world...)
John 3:3,5 "Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.'"

You mean "Dead in sin"

Yes. My typo.
