Hi there,
This is a bit of a plea to any Methodists in the UK.
You will probably be aware of the work of MAYC, the youth section of the Methodist Church. You may also have been lucky enough to have heard/seen the MAYC's Orchestra and Singers in action over the last 25 or so years. Recently, a decision was made by the Methodist Council to cut the funding and staff support to the Orchestra and Singers. As a member, this directly and rather devastatingly affects me. As some personal background, I have been a member for five years, and I became a Christian at an Orchestra and Singers weekend. The support and ministry got me through some really really tough times in my life, and the fellowship is consistently amazing. We are constantly expanding and renewing, attracting new members at a faster rate than we lose old ones. There are currently over one hundred members between 13 and 25. Every one of us has a testimony that includes the Orchestra and Singers in a major way, and the older members minister to and strengthen new and younger members in their faith journey, as well as growing in passion for Christ.
If the support to the Orchestra and Singers is cut, we will attempt to find a way of continuing, but as you all know, most things in life are not free. Also, if we lose our assocation with MAYC and the Methodist Church, we will lose a major part of our exposure, making recruiting new members much harder.
If anyone is aware of or has experienced the work of the Orchestra and Singers and/or would like to know more information about us and the proposed funding cuts, please PM me. Basically, we need to get as many people as possible writing/emailing both the Methodist Council, and the Methodist Recorder to gain exposure. If you feel called to send messages of support, or to spread this news around your Church and Methodist community, then please PM me for contact details. Alternatively, your prayers for God's will to be done in this difficult situation, would be much appreciated.
I would like to stress that this is a personal plea for help, and this message bears no official connection to MAYC, the Orchestra and Singers or the Methodist Church. It is simply asking for help and prayers on an issue that personally impacts me.
