Why every sunday at 10:00AM?
Why only one person preaching?
What happened to bringing a psalms?
Why don't we meet in each others homes instead of a church building that becomes the focus of everything??
I personally enjoy home meetings where we get together and share. I think we've come so far from what a "church" really looks like.
Anyone else understand what I am trying to say??

Hi Smilestoday11
Christ is where you find Him. If you find Him in a church then it's best to stay there. If you find him at a home fellowship then that too is worth your while. It's about Jesus anyway so where He is so ought you be. :)
Try not to allow non-essentials to get in the way of the true goal, to come to a personal relationship with Christ without having outside influences governing the manner in which that relationship is fostered and nurtured.
If the Lord has placed the desire within you to form a certain fellowship or a place to gather then follow that need using His strength and His will to do so.

What you are describing are organizations or clubs but not the Church . They only call themselves "churches" . People are the Church - not preaching , Sundays , or buildings .

Thanks for your reply. I am glad He finds me no matter where it's at :)

Why do we go to work when our schedule says we should go? Why do we watch our favorite television programs at a certain time? Why do we tell our dates we will pick them up at a certain time? If we did not apply a schedule to our lives it would be chaos.
As far as one person preaching, Ephesians 4:11 can answer that.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "bringing a psalm." At my church we have worship. There is music and lyrics but it's more than reading words and going through the motions. It about not thinking about me but thinking about Him and forgetting all my problems, concerns, etc. for the time being and just love on Him.
If your church focuses on the building and not Him then I agree you have a problem. Out of all the churches I've been to though, I've never been to one that focuses on the building.
Another thing, I have been in the exact same place as you, with the same exact question. I praise God for leading me to the church He did because I have grown so much. Don't take my word for anything, see if it lines up with His word. If you ever want scriptural reference pertaining to church I would be happy to show you.
Your Brother in Christ,
Michael

We meet at 10:45 :P

We do not have preaching at the morning meeting rather we break bread with brothers (plural) stand up to pray/read scripture. :)

This thread reminds me of the new theology created by “organic churches” that are against “organized” worship in buildings, and prefer meeting in small groups in homes only. It’s bad theology. Not saying that the thread starter’s opinion is that of the “organic church” movement, just saying it sounds familiar to it.

So why then did the early Christians meet in one another's homes?

Ok i know what you are saying but you have to go to the church every Sunday to worship the Lord the church is the place of worship. But in my church we have church services 8:30am & 10:30am & besides that we also have cell groups your thinking what is that? Its meetings at other church members houses during the week. Basically its a group that studies on a part of the bible EX: I go to a cell group called worship its all about worship & how we do it. & it breaks it down.

So why then did the early Christians meet in one another's homes?
Because the early church was not considered a legitimate religion in the Roman Empire (which would mean they were not allowed to have a separate building, and there was nothing to protect them from persecution in the public sphere)...
As well, the original word for church, ekklesia, meaning "called out ones", which is the people of God, rather than a specific organization or a building or a religion. Actually, the first time that the followers of Christ are referred to as "Christian", it is in a derogatory way, illustrating the strangeness of this strange sect.
Does this mean that we should only meet in certain places, or forsake 2000 years of history, or abandon all tradition simply because it is tradition, or become independant groups (with no outside accountibility)? Nope. But neither does it mean that we should do the opposite, namely keep tradition simply because it is tradition, or only meet with the people of God on Sunday morning for a brief, superficial meeting...
But rather, wherever we meet and however our meetings are structured , we should remember to be the church, and true community of mutual love and honesty is strongly encouraged in Scripture...
Shallom to you all.

I always wondered about that too. Why can we be more about the people and less about the building?

Don’t forget that thousands of Christians around the world do not get the chance nor the freedom to have a building, and think of us fortunate to have a specific building for services. Take advantage of your freedom to have a government that allows you to use a designated building as a church building. Those who are fast to take the stance of “anti-building” for a church, lose their perspective of just how lucky they are to have a building in the first place.
