YES! for the same reason the Tsar was brought down. Orthodoxy stands between 'civilization' and Anarchy - read NWO.

Exactly what I would expect from Buckley's Catholic rag.

This quote cracked me up:

"In contrast, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, based in Istanbul, has acted as the leading voice in favor of freedom and democracy in the Orthodox world."

Sure he is, except that feeling dosen't extent to the granting of autocephaly to the GOA does it?

Yes, that was a good one. I wonder if they noticed he visited Cuba not that long ago and gave Castro a medal.

Also, I think I should say I don't think this is a religiously motivated issue. This seems to me to be about politics, which is why I think they're focusing on what's happened in Ukraine and Georgia.

Yes. The bozo's at the State Department, intelligence (!) agencies, etc. have been doing that for decades. The American view of Russia has always been one that condescends and patronizes the Russian people. The Church is seen as a superstitious, oppressive, medieval institution that keeps the people and the country from "developing". This is the same kind of nonsense that was behind the Revolution to start with. How do I know? Right now, I LIVE with a former analyst who was an "expert" in Russia's history, language and culture and who made his living advising Americans during the Cold War. I hear this stuff every day. Or nearly every day.

Whoa.

Doesn't that put a wee bit of a strain on your marriage? I mean, you being Orthodox and all?

*hug*

Vasya.
