View Full Version : How much time do you spend in prayer?

Throughout my seminary studies I have made prayer a topic of ongoing research.
I'm going to post this topic in other forums...I'm looking for painfully honest answers. Prayer is something that most of us struggle with - so my question is this: how much time do you spend in prayer?
If you find you do not spend as much time in prayer as you would like please take heart - you are in good company. You'd be surprised to find out how little North American pastors pray...
This prayer time does NOT include time spent in devotions.
So please be as honest as possible.
Thanks for your help. Feel free to add any questions.

I picked I don't know because I do set aside time for prayer in the evenings AND I pray at various times during the day as things happen (ie a tragic news story, an addition to one of the prayer lists I am on, a sudden problem, some really good news, while working on a prayer shawl or blanket for a friend). So there is no real way to judge how much time I spend in prayer. I will pray at the drop of a hat if the Spirit moves me to do so.

I don't time it but I do pray. Not certain of how long each day, it might come to anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. It sort of depends on what I see around me.

I put I don't know, because as others have posted, I don't have a preset time for each day. I pray all day long, any time I am moved to do so, and at noght I pray until I am done. It depends who and what I have on my prayer list at the time, never the same amount of time any two days in a row.

I don't spend near as much as I should. I keep trying to work things out on my own and worrying about everything.

I have a really hectic schedule so I usually pray whenever I get the chance... usually as I am putting on my makeup/brushing teeth/brushing hair or going to bed

Father God, I ask in the name of Jesus Christ that you would help flywithchrist06 with her troubles, and her difficulties in praying. Show her Lord, as you have shown so many before her, that your mercies endure forever, and that includes the clear path through the trials of life. Thank you Father for her, and show her your ways. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior I pray. :amen:

My vote: :( I don't set aside specific times to pray. I pray when I get the chance.
...and this poll is the 4th thing in the past 5 days leading me to pray more. Thank you :)

I selected 15 minutes because I pray with my son every night and I do pray in the morning also. Besides that, there are other times that I pray but it is not consistant so I did not include that time.

I don't "set aside" time for prayer. I tend to pray continually thru out the day and evening hours. Some days more than others when I see or hear of special needs.
 :prayer:  1Thessalonians5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Oopes! I wasn't suppossed to vote.
"Please select the answer that fits you best - only Methodists and Nazarenes please."
I really like polls.
I'm not technically a Methodist, but my Granny was, and her husband was named John Wesley :D Can that count?

Hi,
My prayer time goes with a 30 min ride each way to work and many other times
during the day. 1Thes5:17 -"Pray without ceasing" speaks more to my prayer life here lately. I have found in the past that 30 to 45 minutes of focused prayer each day
is when I'm closest to God and most at peace with what's going on around me.
Good survey and a good probing question - it makes me think (conviction is good)
Thanks
