…Not as complicated as CAD, but something that a carpenter could work off of for making a small altar?

What software do you have?

A slow way is to use PowerPoint (with click to shape) and manually adjust all the line and box sizes.

Sorry, gtsecc, I meant to get back to you on this. I'd use Visio if I were designing it. But for your purposes, if you don't already have a detailed design in mind, I'd just make a pencil sketch and let the carpenter work from that -- carpenters are pretty good at putting that kind of thing together.

Does that help?

Maybe if you describe how your vision of this altar differes from just a small table?

I will post a picture of it in a second.

It looks like a large marble sarcophagus.

The top has 3 levels.

The main, and largest are in front where the elements are consecrated.

A second level, behind the first, which is 15 cm higher and where the tabernacle sits.

Then another level another 15cm higher in the very back upon which is the large altar cross.

...another one would be Illustrator (8, 9, 10, or CS).

Getting the exact dimensions of the bottom section is going to be challenging, since the picture was taken at an angle.

I'm with pmcleanj -- if you give the carpenter a pencil sketch (or the picture, for that matter -- that's how we had our kitchen cabinets down and they were exactly what we wanted!) they'll probably be able to construct what you want.

I'd be happy to donate a set of liturgical candles when you're through. A cool effect would be liturgical altar cloths, but that can get expensive. One Episcopal church I attend has a set of menorahs -- it's a NEAT effect!

And, finally:

Child-size Brass Monstrance

Lovely brass replica of an original, this vessel stands 8 1/2" tall. The back piece is threaded (instead of hinged) making it easy to use and hard to break.

This beautiful brass ciborium is sure to delight the eyes of every child who sees it. But even better than looking at it, this attractive vessel is specially designed for a child's use. 6" tall.

Would never do that here. It would probably offend any Arabs we'd have visiting. :)

No, it is part of their Christian education.
We use a Montessori class called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

It is an amazing program.
Last Sunday I watched 2 little girls light candle's from a paschal candle, say the words, and baptize their fist with water and a little shell in a miniature baptismal font. They are 5.

Though I don't know if it's really OK for me to say Mass by myself (though to be honest, the thought HAS occurred to me!).

And my Lutheran friends thought I was "high church" by having a statue of the Blessed Virgin and a Rosary on my home altar!

Neshota House, here I come! ;)

Yeah. Me too.
In one of the lessons for children age 3 to 6, you carefully prepare the mini altar, then you very very carefully place the Chalice on it.
Then ever, ever, so carefully you slowly make the gesture of epiclesis. Then you look at the children and ask them if they would like to come up and try the epiclesis. Of course they all want to do it. In later lessons, then learn the words in addition to the gesture. By about age 10, all of our parish children will know all the words of institution. Tell me where you liev and I can probably find a parish in your area that does this so you can see how it works.
